First of all, I would just like to say one thing. This was a bloody hard poke to analyze. This speculation took me at least two days to put together and there was a lot more that could have been done. But for now, I present to you, some of the greater sets that arceus can use to PWN the opposition.![]() Arceus, the most powerful and most versatile pokemon in the uber tier. Many fear the mighty god of the pokemon world for a good reason. It has the potential to sweep teams and counter EVERYTHING IN THE UBER TIER!! Millions of possible combinations exist, but here are the best ones you can use. Type: Normal/any Abilities: multitype Multitype: pokemons type becomes the same as the plate it is holding [EXTREMESPEED SWEEPER] Arceus @ leftovers/life orb/lum berry Nature: Adamant [-sp atk +atk] EV Spread: 252HP/252atk/6speed ~swords dance ~extremespeed ~shadow claw/Overheat ~Earthquake This is one of the most deadly sets arceus runs. It can sweep at least half a team or more if used properly. Due to the sheer bulkiness of arceus, this set should have no trouble setting up with swords dance. It has the potential to sweep with just one swords dance, but it should be able to easily get two. The idea is to bring in arceus on a poke as a counter or revenge killer. While your opponent switches, use a swords dance. What you do next depends on your hold item. If you use smogons recommendations, you will either run leftovers or life orb, so you would be best to attack the opponent and do major damage if status is coming your way. You should also attack if you are able to 2HKO your opponent and not be able to turn it into an OHKO with an extra Swords dance. Only Swords dance again if you know you can OHKO the opponent next turn. If you run my set and use lum berry, you get the benefit of being able to set up 2 swords dances quite comfortably. Often Giratina will come in to counter and hit you with burn, but the lum berry shrugs it off. If luckhax is on your side, burn will miss and you can Swords dance again. Then, you will be able to OHKO with shadow claw once you get your two (or if you’re lucky, three) swords dances up. Earthquake takes the last spot so you don’t get walled by steel types. It KOs any Dialga and metagross off just one swords dance. If you are worried about any skarms or forretress who may decide to show their ugly mugs, you can always consider overheat over shadow claw. Extremespeed and earthquake take care of most pokes that are normally killed with a shadow claw. Just remember to use your extremespeeds only when you need to. With a low 8PP, they run out fast. There are ubers that run pressure as well so that PP will be drained even faster if you’re not careful. [COSMIC WALL] Arceus @ Iron plate Nature: Modest [-sp atk +sp def] Ev Spread: 252HP/158sp atk/100def ~Cosmic power ~Toxic ~recover ~Ice beam/Flamethrower/Thunderbolt A customized version of the Iron plate arceus. Its main purpose is to set up a couple of cosmic powers so its defences both eclipse the 500 mark. Once this has been done, use toxic on your opponent if they are not steel type. Then recover off any damage. As your opponent keeps getting weaker and weaker due to toxic, you can keep getting bulkier and bulkier with cosmic power. Your last move is to help you kill off anything that might wall arceus, or counter it. Ice beam is there so you can take out the lati twins, groudon, rayquaza and Giratina. Or if it’s the steel types you hate more, you can choose to go with flamethrower. If your opponent has a groudon, then it will only be helping you. If they have a Kyogre, don’t you wish you had ice beam? Thunder bolt is another good option for the last move as it is able to hit the steel types. However, you are them walled by the dragons and groudon. You can toxic stall them, but you will have trouble with groudon. A critical hit Earthquake from groudon spells DOOM for arceus. The EV spread is quite simple. Dump 252EV into HP for a start, so you can maximize your walling abilities on both sides. 158 EV goes into sp attack so your last move is able to do some more damage to an opponent or OHKO more pokes than you could with 0 EVs. The remaining 100 go to defence to help you survive earthquakes from groudons. Chances are your opponent will have a Kyogre so you don’t need to worry about fire damage too much. [CALM MIND SWEEPER] Arceus @ Zap plate/Insect plate/Dread plate/spooky plate Timid [-atk +speed] EV spread: 80 HP/252 Sp atk/176 Speed ~Judgment ~Ice beam ~Calm mind ~recover/substitute This is a smogon set with 1 extra option added my me. The EV spread allows you to have max sp attack for dealing massive amounts of damage. The speed EVs allow you to outspeed all variations of lugia and the lati twins (excluding the scarfed sets). When making a team using this, you have a lot of decision making to do. First off, the hold item. You have 4 viable options. Zap plate, Insect plate, Dread plate and spooky plate. Zap plate was an option added by me. This type has only one weakness; ground. With the zap plate, you can also use the boltbeam combo for awesome coverage. An electric judgment packs quite a lot of power and off 2 CMs it can potentially OHKO the specs/scarfed kyogres and the physically based lugias. Ice beam is there to cover the lati twins and rayquaza. The only drawbacks to the zap plate are the rayquazas who have used 1DD and run earthquake, and a groudon who comes in when you haven’t set up your CMs. Insect plate probably isn’t the greatest option to use, but it does have a resistance to ground and fighting moves (which are common in ubers thanks to their power and accuracy). A bug type judgment hits all uber psychic types for massive damage, even OHKOing several of them. However, a lot of pokes in ubers will have not much trouble switching into a bug type judgment. Dialga is one of them, being bulky enough to even take an ice beam on top of that. The dread plate gives you resistances to any STAB psychic moves and another common move type in ubers. Ghost. However, you are weak to fighting moves, which are common in ubers. A dark type judgment is a great type to use because you are able to hit several of the psychic and ghost walls for super effective damage. Only Dialga is able to resist a dark type judgment with ease. The spooky plate gives you an immunity to the priority extremespeed move and the common fighting moves. It also allows judgment to hit all the psychic and ghost walls for super effective damage once again. However, you are weak to ghost and dark moves, which are fairly common in ubers. All sets should run Ice beam and judgment as their 2 attacking moves. At 150 base power and 100 accuracy, you would be stupid to refuse judgment on a special sweeping arceus. For your last move, it’s a choice of recover and substitute. Personally, I like recover more because arceus is bulky in general and a self recovery move is handy once you get your calm minds going. Substitute can help with scouting moves or putting up a shield when your opponent switches, but once that health goes, there’s no getting it back. Also, if you run sub, you won’t be winning a stall contest with a blissey any time soon [DOUBLE STATUS] Arceus @ meadow plate Calm [-atk +sp def] EV spread: 252HP/60def/198sp def ~Thunder wave ~Will O wisp ~Judgment ~Earth power/Ice beam This set is one of my creations. Choosing the move combos + plate type was difficult and this still might not be the greatest set up, but here’s what its designed to do. The first two moves are your status moves. Toxic isn’t listed because this arceus is nowhere near bulky enough to toxic stall a poke. The objective of this set is to paralyze as many of the opponents pokemon as possible so you can slow them all down. Will O wisp is there so you can burn the physical sweepers like groudon and rayquaza so they don’t pose too much of a threat later on. The meadow plate was chosen so you could take on both kyogre and groudon with judgment. Judgment 2HKOs most variations of kyogre and groudon, but the bulkier kyogres can take 3 hits. However, if kyogre is paralyzed, there’s not much it can really do unless it’s a resttalker. The meadow plate was also chosen to stop the infamous palkia/drizzle combo from wreaking havoc against you with STAB boosted water moves. The 4th move is where the choosing ends. You can pick earth power to prevent dialgas and metagross’s from walling you. Earth power will 2HKO both. Or if you want to kill rayquazas and damage the other dragons you may face, you can select ice beam. No speed EV is needed as you will be T waving the faster pokes. EVs are mainly pinned on sp def because you have will O wisp to keep the physical threats at bay. [PHYSICAL GHOST SWEEPER] Arceus @ spooky plate Nature: jolly [-sp atk + speed] EV spread: 80hp/252atk/176speed ~Shadow claw ~Brick break ~Swords dance ~Recover/earthquake/overheat/refresh It’s a smogon set, but it’s worth a mention because this set PWNs!! The infamous ghost/fighting coverage makes an appearance, only being resisted by spiritombs and sableyes who make no appearance in ubers whatsoever. On top of the awesome coverage, you have the opportunity to boost your attack with swords dance. Your last move is entirely up to you. Select it depending on what you are weak to or what you feel you need more. If you want to OHKO dialgas and metagross off 1SD, select earthquake. If its recovery you want, then select recover. If you are walled by skarms and forretress who may decide to show up, then go with overheat. Speed EVs allow you to outspeed the lati twins and all lugia spreads. Just watch you don’t get paralyzed because this set relies on speed more since there’s no priority move. Refresh is another option for your last slot if you fear burns and paralysis. However, take note that this arceus isn’t as bulky as the extremespeed sweeper due to the low HP EVs and may end up having a huge chunk taken out of its HP before it restores its status. In the case of paralysis, it may even fail to restore its status. [CHOICE SPECS] Arceus @ choice specs Nature: Timid [-atk +speed] EV spread: 80HP/252sp atk/176speed ~Overheat ~Draco meteor ~Ice beam ~Earth power/Thunder/thunderbolt/recover A basic, yet underrated set that gives you the element of surprise. Without a plate, most people will assume it is the extremespeed arceus and send out a physical counter like a forretress or a Giratina. Then you can welcome their switch in with a souped up overheat or Draco meteor. Since this arceus has no stab move, you want your moves to cover as much as possible and be as powerful as possible. Another reason why these super powerful moves are the better option is because you are going to be switching frequently. Overheat provides you with steel coverage. It will OHKO any forretress, skarmory and metagross. If metagross invests heavily in HP EV, then it will take 2 hits to kill. Draco meteor hits all but steel for either neutral or super effective damage, which makes it a great asset for arceus. Its main purpose is to do major damage to whatever comes in. Draco meteor 2HKOs the average latias and can OHKO the standard latios. Any dialga and palkia that come in on a Draco meteor will take a massive amount of damage. Your last two sp attacks depend on what you are weak against. Ice beam is a must because it covers a lot of the dragons and doesn’t drop your sp attack sharply, allowing you to stay in and blast them again. Then, its your choice of either earth power, thunderbolt, thunder or recover. Earth power provides extra steel coverage without the sp attack drop and covers dialga more effectively than overheat. Thunderbolt gives you the option of running boltbeam and with overheat, the combo can’t be resisted by anything. Thunder is also an option if you run a kyogre in your team. A 120 power move with a 20% chance of paralysis isn’t a bad option at all. You just have to hope that a groudon doesn’t show up. Your last option is recover. Recover is just a filler move which you can use to get back some lost health later on then switch out. EVs are the same as the ghost physical sweeper, allowing you to outspeed all versions of the lati twins and lugia (except for scarf sets). Most of the ones that decide to come in will think they’re faster and try to set up or recover off the damage only to find an ice beam coming their way again. [CHOICE BAND] Arceus @ choice band Nature: Adamant [-sp atk +atk] EV spread: 36hp/252atk/220speed ~Extremespeed ~Punishment ~Earthquake/Overheat ~Dragon claw/shadow claw A smogon set that is also worth a mention. It is mostly used for revenge killing but can be used to come in on any shadow balls that you may happen to predict. Extremespeed is there for STAB and a priority move should you need to be the first to strike. Punishment is there for the pokes who like to set up and sweep. Each stat boost gives punishment +20 power. Punishment can reach a maximum of 200 base power (which is a lot). The lati twins like to use CM and sweep teams so sometimes it pays to let them do just that. After they finish using calm mind and kill off 1 of the pokes you no longer need, bring in this beast and kill them straight away. The EV spread allows this arceus to outspeed most latias and latios so a revenge kill often works. Your third slot is a choice of the two claw moves. Both dragon claw and shadow claw are a good move to take out giratina and the lati twins, but it’s the rest of the field that needs to be taken into consideration as well. Shadow claw has 10 less base power than dragon claw, however, it has a high critical hit ratio and delivers super effective hits to the common psychic ubers and can at least do neutral damage to metagross. Dragon claw has 10 more base power than shadow claw, however, you miss out on the high critical hit rate and you won’t be able to take down the psychic ubers as easily. However, you will be able to knock out palkia in one shot and deal super effective damage to rayquaza. Your last move is either earthquake or overheat. Earthquake allows you to take down dialga and metagross with ease, however, skarm and forretress will wall this set completely then. Overheat will fix that problem and still be able to provide the metagross coverage you may need. [MATTS CUSTOM SUPPORTER] Arceus @ spooky plate Nature: Calm [-atk +sp atk] EV spread: 252HP/158sp def/100 def ~Light screen/safe guard/recover ~Reflect/safe guard/recover ~Thunder wave/Will O wisp ~Judgment A custom support arceus that I invented. The EVs are mainly special defence based due to the fact that special attacks are far more common in ubers than attacks. The 100 EVs in defence allow this arceus to easily survive a groudons earthquake with no screen up. Your first and second options should be picked to best suit the team you run. You can choose from several different combinations. One of them can be dual screen support, one screen status guard support, or a one screen/ status guard supporter so you can use the second slot as a self recovery option. The possibilities are hard to choose from. Your third slot is for further support, this time for crippling the opponent. You can choose T wave if you want to make your opponents be the last to strike, or in some cases, not strike at all. Or you could run will O wisp to burn the physical attackers that might show up. Judgment is in the last slot so this arceus can do some damage. You don’t always have to run judgment. You might decide to make a double status screen supporter. Ghost type was chosen so pokes that run brick break won’t be able to break your screens until you switch. [WATER SWEEPER] Arceus @ splash plate Nature: Jolly [-sp atk + speed] EV spread: 6HP/252atk/252speed ~Swords dance ~Waterfall ~Earthquake ~Extremespeed/shadow claw This was an option listed in smogon’s “other options” list. However, they didn’t list EVs or full movesets so I decided to customize one. This set is speed based thanks to waterfall having a chance to make the opponent flinch. With 372 speed, this arceus won’t be outsped by many things. Swords dance gives you the attack boosting capabilities the adamant extremespeed set has. Waterfall is your STAB move and in the rain, turns from STAB to DEADLY. Off just 1SD, waterfall can potentially ruin your opponents whole team if the rain is out. Earthquake once again covers dialga and metagross with the utmost ease. It’s the 4th move that needs a little bit of thought Extremespeed gives you the edge if you are facing an attack deoxys or a timid darkrai, both are becoming common now. Shadow claw gives you some great ghost and psychic coverage since this arceus has the speed EVs to not rely on extremespeed. Other options: The options for arceus are endless. I have listed the more important ones but there is so much more this amazing beast can do. You will have to do some experimenting of your own to find a set that works best for you. Opinion: Arceus is only the greatest uber poke in existence. Need I say more? I could go on forever about his greatness but I’m not writing a book here. Lol EV spread recommendations: There is no “perfect EV spread” for arceus. But it is best to follow the recommended EV spreads for the listed sets. Counters: Every set has a counter, but overall, there are no real counters for arceus due to his awesome versatility. I can post up some more sets for arceus, like smogon's utility sets, but I didn't want to copy all the smogon sets so I didn't put them up. Anyways, what do you guys think of the arceus spec? |

Thanks for the compliments Yes, it was a hard pokemon to analyze. the possibilities are endless. It took me two days to do all the writing and check the sets over. But its worth it if it benefits the site. BTW Phippzy, I found the problem with the pics. My school won't let you view them. My school sucks |
