North Korea; "The Axis of Evil" is turning

As you all know, North Korea tested a nuclear weapon underground on Monday.

The question is, what next? They've already demonstrated their lack of respect for international sanctions. Should we invade now, while they still supposedly lack the capability to hit anywhere worth hitting with a nuke? Do we bomb the living hell out of all the suspected nuclear facilities and other military targets? Does this represent the end of humanity, or is the APOCALYPSE coming?

OR do we continue pleading with them like little girls?

The real worry is, if Iran see us doing nothing, they might figure they've got the go ahead to continue their program.

Discuss.

It makes me angry how Channel Nine played the "So Ronery" clip from Team America on NATIONAL NEWS.

Grow up.

On October 10, 2006, an unnamed North Korean official was quoted as saying that North Korea could launch a nuclear missile unless the U.S. sits down for face-to-face talks. However, few, if any, military and defense experts believe that the North Koreans posses the technology to mount a nuclear warhead to a ballistic missile.

On October 11, the Associated Press reported that North Korea has threatened war if attempts are made to penalize them through further sanctions. This statement occurred even as Japan moved to tighten sanctions on the communist country. South Korea said they were ensuring their troops were prepared for nuclear war. A U.S. Army major, stationed along the border between North and South Korea, said that the overall situation was "calm" but that "Communist troops were more boldly trying to provoke their southern counterparts: spitting across the demarcation line, making throat-slashing hand gestures, flashing their middle fingers and trying to talk to the troops."

On that day, the North Korean Foreign Ministry stated that "if the U.S. keeps pestering us and increases pressure, we will regard it as a declaration of war and will take a series of physical corresponding measures." The Foreign Ministry did not however specify what those measures could be.

Basically, North Korea is trying to bully us around and intimidate the rest of the world. Basically they're saying "Hey, we can take on the United states! We're better than the rest of the world." If we "continue pleading with them like little girls" we lose, because all they want us to do is kiss up to them like they can control us. What we really need to be doing is ignoring their threats, because if they do decide to nuke another country, they will be looked down upon as cowards, and probably be blown to hell by angered nations.

At the moment this couldn't be a more clear oxymoron: We are engaged in a non-violent war. But it's still a war. All we have to do is stand our ground and wait for them to make a stupid move. The question is will the American, French, Japanese, British (and any more) governments be willing to be patient, or make the first stupid move by invading them and losing the war due simply to our own fear?

Sanctions will be imposed to no great effect. If NK launch a nuke or test another one, more ground forces will be mobilised into South Korea and massive air raids will rain death upon the north.

Also known as what's good for everyone except the poor citizens of NK.

Steps to stop them

1st step: Negotiations: IS and will fail

2nd step: Intimidation: Will fail probably

3rd step: Political sanctions: Will fail probably

4th step: Resort to war: WIll finally end it

I'd agree on the general idea of that list.

Will finally end it? No offence, but that's just fucking stupid.

War never solves anything. Ever.

how about 4th step: Assasinate Kim Jong Il and maybe big dubya too

I must disagree. Sometimes all out warfare is the only option. I'm talking World War II here people. (Let's all forget the sham that was WWI...)

An air strike on North Korea (like a month long barrage) to target mulitary facilities, nuclear testing plants (suspected and confirmed underground etc) to prepare for a possible ground assault is a possiblilty the US would be considering as I type this. Guaranteed.

NK thinks it's such a big deal having the ability to produce nuclear weapons that they feel threatening global security is justified. It's not like the US or Russia did that to anyone else during the cold war (except to each other).

The problem is, though, Mars, is that attacking will make us look like cowardly pussies who give in to the intimidation of NK and attack them to ensure our security. If sanctions and so on fail and NK attacks the US or any other nation, the whole world will have their own crosshairs on the belligerent people, and will have a reason to fight back.

Either way, the world knows something's going on over there. The UN is already freaked out whether the blast was real or not, sanctions were unanimously imposed on NK's nuclear regime on October 14th.

Firstly, according to what is known generally about North Korea's nuclear capabilities at present there is no way they could actually reach the United States, Britain or even Australia (Who would be extremely low on any list North Korea would possibly posess. WE ARE NOTHING)

Thanks to trade sanctions enforced by the UN, NK will continue to starve, which isn't actually anything new for a nation who devotes almost 30% of it's annual spending on Military. Thats almost $12 billion dollars (with a GDP of $40billion)...that leaves the nation with next to no welfare, and most of the population outside P'yŏngyang are quite literally starving.

Sanctions, sanctions.
This will increase friction and tension until the threats begin (anyone actually linking the similarities with the cold war yet?) which will go on and on indefinetly.

the facts are:
1. The actual threat is that NK will auction weapons grade plutonium to the highest bidder, which of course could be catastrophic. But then again, the amount of such materials floating around un-regulated in post-cold war Russia is vast, and as of yet nothing has come of it. Plus you need launching capabilities which are hugely expensive..Iran might be able to pull it off, but not without being attacked first.

2. Assasinating Kim Jong Il (as mentioned previously) would be possibly the worst and most infeasible action that the west could take at present, as all it would do is force another power hungry communist to the throne. Slight panic would break out, but it would only enflame tensions to the highest degree.

3. If America and it's great friends decide that hostile action is necassary, then within days, NK would mobilise and attack Sth. Korea. If such a thing ocurred, they would get "Fucking owned" for lack of a better word. Although the military spending may be vast, one US tested nuclear warhead will do as much damage as needed. This won't happen, but the US capabilites are frightening.

Thats all I think at the moment..I havent edited or anything..this is just a thought.

North Korea are part of the problem.

That was an insightful and interesting series of facts, but what do you propose we do? Personally I have no clue, I lost track of things a while ago. Should we just let things cool down on their own?
