This is the thread... the big religion thread.

I am an atheist, my mindset is "no god." But I am aware that Mad holds quite a diversity in religious beliefs, be they crazy or not so crazy.

I am a Hindu. I was baptised that. But my religion teaches me to respect all religions and beliefs.

So convert now!

Ummm no. But I think it's better to believe in god and not religion. That's why a lot of people consider themselves "atheists". They do not wish to be judged or be given a label based on their religious preference.

So there's my 2 cents worth...

How about yours?

I was baptized and confirmed protestant christian, though I haven't gone to church for several months now. Basically I don't care about what religion another person is, as long as they don't try to convert me or something. It's downright disrespectful to me when people say I'm going to hell for not converting to their religion. It makes me extremely annoyed when people debase my religion and try to render years and years of worship in my life superflous.

This doesn't mean I hate them or anything, because many religions including mine teach respect for others. But when others like them (I'm not going to mention any specific converters) don't show respect for my beliefs, I can get really angry.

Theological arguments are always sensitive and difficult to get out of without making a fool of yourself, so I'll end with the request that no one go too deep when discussing our fellow's religions in this thread.

I myself don't personally practice any specific religion, but I do believe in God. I do believe in miracles. I do believe in a greater power. I also believe that religions are just a focus for worshipping a God. European-originating religions worship God. Some asian religions worship Buddha. Others worship the Greek Gods, and others the Roman Gods. But I believe that these are all different interpretations of the same Greater Power. So if you think about it, religions are different, but yet they are all the same. Forgive me if I left out the God that you believe in, but I did not want this post to be a page long, as it would have been had I mentioned every single worshipped God.

I disagree with the Atheist comment. I believe purely in Science.

Indeed. It too irritates me when people say that I'm an infidel or that I will burn in the fires of hell. Seriously. That's my decision, so leave me to burn, Churchy.

I did not say that every atheist has a fear of labels. Indeed "Atheist" itself is a label.

That is a stupid point. Everything is a "label" by that logic. We invent titles to describe things. Without titles we would waste time telling people unnecessary explanations.

Conversation with titles:

John: Hi Dave. What religion are you?

Dave: I'm an Atheist.

Conversation without titles:

John: Hi Dave. What religious affiliation are you?

Dave: Well... I believe in science over fantasy, so I guess you could say I am a person who favours no "God" as such, but rather the simple explanations offered by the scientific principles.

Mars, you are to agressive and you act as if everyone is less intelligent than you.

Also, it is nice to believe in something. Christians lead a happy life believing in God , in general. Maybe heaven should be believed in so that this life, which is the only life you get, is heaven in a sense. I am not trying to say that you cannot lead a happy life not believing in god

I don't believe in intelligent design mainly because of the advantages of polytheism, but also because I believe in science. (Which ironically is heavily based on western culture, which is in turn based upon what we know as christian society.)

I am tired.

I laugh at many things such as seventh day adventism, e.g denying evolution. I have always been apalled at how people can just laugh in the face of pure, factual evidence, such as the aformentioned evolution truth, or the holocaust, stolen generation, etc.

And if church ends up in public schools then the terrorists have already won.

Hello little boy. Let me tell you about sarcasm. Sarcasm is a wonderfully underrated form of humour.
