I was thinking of adding this thread ages ago.

Anyway, i think i can speak for everyone with five brain cells and more that Global warming (Climate change is a natural occurence) does exist and can be a threat to us in the future.

Michael Crichton, author, has recently become under fire in my Geography class as he has written a book that appears to "prove" Global warming does not exist. His allegations are false and no one should be sucked into them. One unfortunate fellow in my class did and he still firmly believes that Global Warming does not exist (FOOL FOOL FOOL). I urge you not to be the ones that jump onto the bandwagon of the conspiracy theorists just for the sake of it.

Yes I must agree with the note that climate change is a natural occurence along with greenhouse gases. It is our speeding up of these natural processes that is causing global warming. It is a serious issue and we must face it now. The talk of instating nuclear power in 10-15 years or so is ridicolous. We must stop this procrastination and do something, even if it means losing some support from the ignorant public. Michael Crichton is indeed a moron, if what the certain follower we know says is accurate. Even the most conservative predictions regarding sea levels (For one example) are dangerously high. It is no longer a distant threat, it's real and it's here now.

If only mr. Davidson would talk like that. Then again, no one in our class would understand. *Sigh*

Probably true. However he is an excellent teacher who really knows his stuff. I enjoy seeing the Crichton believers getting shut down every day, Good times.

Here is a speech from Michael Crichton, I haven't read it as I don't have time right now but it's supposed to be good. It is titled "Global Warming Is Caused By Aliens". Somebody read it and give it in a nutshell.

And here is a video of Crichton rambling.

Interesting...

Exhaust from automobiles is one of the climate change factors I know of, mainly because of how rich the exhausts are in greenhouse gases (Carbon Dioxide, Carbon Monoxide, Sulfur Dioxide) and so on. Based on the time period there were varying rates of these gases being dumped into the atmosphere, and depending on the addatives, they were sometimes more harmful.

Earlier fuels were mixed with certain amounts of lead to prevent early ignition in an engine's combustion chambers, which in turn caused most of the early cases of lead poisoning from inhaling exhaust fumes. Today unleaded fuels are a standard, and, Sulfur dioxide emissions (listed above) are lower now that low-sulfur diesel fuels (diesel fuel in America can be no higher than 15 parts per million sulfur) reduce emissions from higher-polluting diesel engines. As for the rest, the development of catalytic converters has made all emissions on all vehicles that have them (most do, although the laws vary from state to state, there are much stricter emissions standards now in America as well) and exhaust from vehicles is usually no more than 100 parts per million.

But what is stated above only explains what we are doing about emissions from automobiles today, which, in turn my whole point is: when we didn't have this kind of technology and know the right way to produce less-polluting fuels and cars, we were left off driving unclean cars for nearly a hundred years at the environment's expense. Today we would have known better. The sad part is we really can't do anything but slow down the effects of climate change by keeping our wasted atmosphere as clean as we can. I'll say we are doing an okay job, but we could do better. If only America were as environmentally concerned as some countries in Europe and such.

An okay job? Both our countries are doing a disgustingly poor job. Someone needs to take a leaf out of Sweden's book. Those awesome Swedes.

Have any of you heard of the "Cool the Globe" campaign held by Sunrise?

It's an online petition to extend the rebate to people who install solar panels in their homes.

An okay job?

Automotive-wise, yes. We can always do better, in every respect.

So THAT explains why America is choking to death on the largest number of fatarse SUVs in the world. Not.

FnF, I despise Sunrise for the fact it's Seven and hosted by a shaved chimp, but that's a good idea. Speaking of solar power, some relatives of mine just got a solar kitted house. Pretty cool, eh.

Yes, its great that there are all these petitions going about to stop global warming, but to really make the biggest difference the governments must step in. Australia and USA need to sign the Kyoto protocol.

Or agree to a newer protocol of some sort, Kyoto is somewhat outdated and possibly (I don't have the facts) void.

you realise that Sunrise isn't referring to the TV show, but to the Environmental Activism society?

I would recommend to anyone who is seriously concerned about this issue, to read Heat - By George Monbiot. It will school you, then school you again. It basically gives yuppies like myself the facts (independent) and then attempts to devise a sustainable economy/overall society structure.

worth the read.
