So wait, if i rad correctly, essentially, we pay companies to keep their greenhouse gases low? How does this emissions trading work? |

companys have an allowence of the green house gas the can produce if they go over the limit they can get another company who has not reached the limit to buy the ghg (green house gas) or i think they can buy a bigger allowence of the government\ we have 2 options with ghg 1. it keeps going and we all burn / die or the better option 2. this is just part of the earths cycle and it will fix itself |

That is a foolish view that even the majority of hardcore conservatives do not support aanymore. Michael Crichton is a fool and you should take all that he says with seventeen pinches of salt. There are tons of evidence to support the fact that this is not a natural cycle. Yes there are theories of atmospheric and environmental cycles (the Malankovich cycle for one) and I believe them to be mostly correct. What's happening now is far too radical to be part of a natural climate cycle. |

Global warming is indeed a natural cycle, but Greenhouse Gases, are both natural and unnatural releases caused by an increase of both industrial productivity, and higher density in both the use of current technology, and its production. The idea that our contributions will be somehow forgotten, or compensated by the Earth is both unrealistic and downright stupid. |

[Apologies for double post] The only 'options' that we have, are as follows: 1. We allow ourselves to continue to overshoot resource demand, and keep it at the same low prices (therefor creating a higher demand) and die from both ; an increase in heat conditioning, and drought (followed by lack of resources, not to mention possible tide disruption, causing the deaths of millions in coastal settlements.) or 2. We cut (as Western nations) our emissions (through various diplomatic schemes) by around 60%-90% by 2050, and attempt to balance a sustainable economy around said emissions, and industrial fall. What our esteemed leaders fail to consider, is that even if they continue to play the "We must conserve our economy" card, we will be affected so heavily by drought, that our agricultural industry will die out rapidly, leaving a gaping hole in our exports. or 3. We sail to the moon, and live happily ever after. |

What the hell are you talking about? That's by far the most foolish thing I've ever heard on Climate Change. Can you explain it? And explain: "Mooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon." |

It isn't really about 100% green power, as such a thing isn't realistic or logistically possible. I agree that the main problem on an international scale is Chindia, as they would obviously refuse industrial sanctions, as they are as-yet not at their peak of development. It's even worse for us when we 'diplomatically' order them (as developed countries) to halt and cut down.
In what way does that surprise you? |

Think about it, if you where the leader of one of those two countries, and had been invaded and oppressed by the current western countries for the past 100-200 years, you finally manage to get free, then they tell you to stop what your doing, they aren't going to stop. You're saying I shouldn't be surprised that Americans use about 1000x more shit than they need to? What drugs are you on man?

You understand that a country of more people, but a hugely higher level of poverty, is going to use (in theory) no more energy than a country which thrives on industry and technological advancement, even at an individual level, for every single citizen. |

No, because America has the money and ability to cut down on emissions, in fact, they have the least efficient cars in the world. The best thing to do about global warming, is to buy land that in a high altitude, that you can grow crops on. If you do that, I guarantee everything will be just fine. But when is it going to happen, that's the question! |

1. Politically/economically, they aren't willing. 2. The Republican administration doesn't care.
Yes, then we can have a picnic with all of the little bears, and dance ourselves to sleep. Mmmm, Mother Mary, can I have another one of your Jam sandwhiches? Fucking fantasy my friend. NOT A SOLUTION TO ANYTHING.
Wake up. It is happening. There is no question. |
