Teen girl charged with posting nude photos on Internet

PITTSBURGH (AP)  — A 15-year-old girl has been arrested for taking nude photographs of her self and posting them on the Internet, police said.

The girl, whose identity was withheld, was accused of sending out photographs of herself in various states of undress and performing a variety of sexual acts. She sent them to people she met in chat rooms on the Internet, police said.

Police seized her computer and found dozens of photographs stored on the hard drive. Authorities did not say how police learned about the girl.

She has been charged with sexual abuse of children, possession of child pornography and dissemination of child pornography.

Sexual abuse of children? Huh? Discuss.

This thread probably doesn't belong in debate, but that's up to Mars. While it's here I'll discuss appropriately with this forum's rules.

Given her age she probably didn't think what she was doing was wrong, and has some obvious psychological issues. I'll admit the "self-abuse" idea is amusing, but in her case it is a serious matter. I think the reason the charge "sexual abuse of children" was made was because it fits the criteria of her situation, and there is no specific law for "self abuse", as you put it.

I think this is a worthy debate thread.

You know the world is funny when a girl is arrested for child pornography - of herself. As far as I'm concerned, if she wants to post nude pics of herself, let her.

Well, I wanted to discuss this, but there was nowhere else to put it.

The strange thing is, by law, if she hadn't sent out those photos, there would be no problem with that.

The justice system is screwed up. I want to know how they knew about it anyway.

Does anyone know her myspace?

Apart from the entire charge of 'Possession of Child Pornography' and 'Child abuse.' I don't see there being much of a debate out of this, unless the thread is retitled 'The right to commit crime, whereby you are the victim.' I.e. Suicide or personal bodily harm. She's just pumped full of hormones, and gagging for some kind of attention and physical expression of self. Clearly it's a good thing that she's rehabilitated, but on those charges, I would argue that they are harsh, and inappropriate at best.

I meant that if she had those files, and didn't send them out, there would be no problem as the police wouldn't have found out.

Completely true, although her parents may have found out sooner or later, but at least she wouldn't be stuck up against the law.

Most likely a pervert looking at her pictures who thought he'd earn brownie points with the authorities if he turned her in. Note the irony.
