Children of Men
directed by Alfonso Cuarón.

A twisted look at the near future, where all women have become infertile, leading to widespread anarchy across the world. There is however, a glimmer of hope..

I won't give away any more as it would spoil the film. If you really want more information, then so be it.

Brilliant soundtrack, amazing editing (wait for the giant urban battle at the end, seemingly done in one take), excellent acting.

American Psycho
Director: Mary Harron

An utterly twisted perspective on one man's seemingly endless bloodlust, and a mental struggle to comprehend the nature of his collapsing reality.

The film is charted through a first and third person perspective style narrative, exploring main character Patrick Bateman's brutal mental state, and cleverly comments almost satirically on late 80s American 'Yuppie' culture.

Not a perfect execution of what people thought would be the 'unfilmable film', but it has it's moments of sheer genius. Christian Bale brilliantly plays Bateman, with a disturbingly edgy wit that is a fantastic contrast between the all to frequent acts of violence. Cinematography was excellent, and the clever contrasting soundtrack impressive (compiled by musical and production genius John Cale, formerly of The Velvet Underground).

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

I know, we've all seen it. But I just watched the DVD extended edition and have a few things to say about it.

First off, most of the added scenes are more humorous than serious; but a few are very character-oriented and promote a better understanding of each major character's deeper personality. The battle scenes remain downright excellent and are not without meaning; and most of the other screenplay is equally spectacular.

The only major thing I disliked was that the separate stories were out of balance; there was too much emphasis put on the people of Rohan and Helm's deep that there are very sudden and almost startling shifts to Merry and Pippin/Frodo and Sam's part of the story. The ending is also a bit anticlimactic; but because this is only the second installment in the trilogy it does not affect my rating.

The lowest grade of all three LOTR films, which is still fairly high:

The Truman Show

Awesome. I liked it a lot, although I couldn't hear some of it. Delightfully ironic. This movie got me thinking, but I found several paradoxes that I would have liked removed.

I'd give it a 9/10. But then, I'm not real serious about my movies. I don't think there's a movie out there I've seen that I think is horrible.

Harvey Keitel + police brutality + excessive drug use + nuns getting raped with crucifixes = 9.6/10

The Butterfly Effect

This film has Ashton Kutcher in it. My sister was watching it, so I watched it for a few minutes, then left to go do something else. I wasn't really paying attention when I was watching it, because I came in halfway through and it didn't make sense. Therefore, I give this film a rating of TURD. Lift your game, Ashton.

I can understand liking the film (I thought it was pretty good) but are you sure you phrased your positive review properly? Surely Scorsese at his best are the 10/10 films like Mean Streets, or Raging Bull, or Taxi Driver, or Goodfellas? I mean, maybe you meant 'Scorsese doing pretty damn well', but at his best?

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Impressive debut for writer/director/actor Zach Braff, and quite a powerful film. Visually quite astonishing, and a soundtrack that fits perfectly with every element of the plot.

9/10.

The phrase "at his best" should be interpreted as "X is really in his element" or "X is displaying all his talents remarkably well". Of course if I literally meant at his BEST, at his most PERFECT moment in his entire CAREER, I would have said so.

You try way too hard.

IF you still have a bone to pick, I refer you to what would be my next post:

"'sif Scorsese's ever been less than best."

I thought so, but I had to seek clarification. Note the restrained, non-flaming tone of my initial post.

Here's a little description of my life: I don't try at almost everything I do. Exclusions include certain subjects at school, and acting stuff, and inclusions include flaming people on a small iStories forum. If I were to actually try to flame someone, let's just say I'd be in jail and you (and everyone you love) would have difficulty sleeping without the lights on.

Spoiler (highlight):Richard Gere was solid in the film, but Edward Norton was far better as the psychotic dual personality killer.
