Better than sliced bread
For some history info. After the battle of Thermopylae, xerxes couldn't just march into Sparta. Athens was in his way. His armies destroyed Athens but it had already been abandoned. Now I am about to tell you about one of the greatest military minds of all time.

A guy named Themistocles had planned years ago for Xerxes assault. He new that on land the Greeks could not win because of the sheer size of the Persian army. That is why he built hundreds of warships, called triremes. When the Persians landed on greek soil, he and all the Athenians fled from the city and to a small bay inlet called Salamis, and parked over 200 triremes there. When the Persians came to Athens, after their victory against the Spartans at Thermopylae, there was no one there, save for a few who refused to follow Themistocles plan. Then when Themistocles heard the Spartans were in Athens, he sent a soldier there to act as a betrayer. The fake betrayer told the Persians that all Athenians were on the coast of Salamis and if they left now, they could be caught by surprise. Xerxes took the bait. The Persians went on board their ships and in the morning rounded the bay of Salamis and saw an awesome sight. Over 200 Triremes waiting for them. The Persians were annihilated in the Battle of Salamis with all of them being killed. Thus ends the great story of Themistocles.

Children Of Men - 10/10

A masterpiece. I found Children Of Men to be an amazing view on how the future will look. I thought it was fantastic all the way through. The all-handicam is a great style and really added to the atmosphere of the film, it's also my favourite form of filming. The long scenes were orgasmic. The acting and pretty much everything about it is amazing.

Casino Royale - 8/10

Casino Royale is the first James Bond film I've ever actually seen, and I just thought it was brilliant. I thought it was an amazingly well-done film.

28 Days Later - 9/10

Fantastic. Again, another view on the future, in a way. 28 Days Later is a film that really sparks thoughts and feelings in your head, the thoughts on the fact that a pandemic could actually be around the corner from you, and the feeling of fear behind that fact. Cillian Murphy was fantastic. It was all very well-made and superbly acted. It has some fantastic music too. I'm not looking forward to 28 Weeks Later as it looks to Hollywood for me. I respect the effort they put into making London deserted, and I really respect the use of Digital Video throughout the film. It certainly gives off a different, more urban/independent vibe as opposed to the very Hollywood feel of, say, Casino Royale. A magnificent piece.

Spiderman 3

Earth to casting officials: If you're going to cram so many damn villains into one movie, do it right. Don't hire a former that 70's show character to play a character who is supposed to be a ample antagonistic sonofabitch.

Peter's waltzing-down the street scene was the most purposeless and absurd waste of film in cinema history.

Other than that, this movie sports fantastic special effects and at least a few decent character conflicts, most admirably the obvious rivalry between Harry and Peter. Had the entire movie been focused on just these two, and perhaps keep Sandman to fill in the running time (he had the most moving character story) it would have been much more interesting and suspenseful.

Here be spoilers
Things I learned from Spiderman 3:

-If you want to kill Spiderman, ask God to do it for you at your local Catholic church.
-Particle accelerators can turn a person and all of his clothes into a living, morphable blob of sand but leave metal lockets completely untouched.
-Sandman can't hold together in water, yet he can shed tears.
-Policemen can magically create shovels from thin air when they need to search trucks filled with sand.
-Cranes in New York City can go wildly out of control when you least expect it. Watch out.

*Children of Men high five*

Don't judge 28 Weeks before you see it, yo. I salivate at the idea of the survivors not only having to deal with the infected but also the full force of the US military.

Discuss in the 28 weeks thread?

Hey Lumpy, you know your little piss-take about how Sandman was made? Let me refresh your memory (Don't worry about it not being white, it isn't a spoiler):

That's EXACTLY how he was made in the comic book. And a metal locket is exactly that, a metal locket, an inanimate object, with no living tissue in it. Sorry if I sound pissed off, Mum just kicked me off the DVD player after three hours of The Sopranos. I'm not having a go at you, but you shouldn't be so critical of a comic-book movie. I can't remember if Sandman's whole story about his daughter was ever actually in the comics. Oh, did you know that Flint Marko's actual name is William Baker, at least it is in the comics. Yeah. Shit I'm tired and ill.

I thought Topher Grace did a fantastic job portraying Eddie Brock Jr./Venom. The only problem I found was that due to him not being in the film too long, there was little room for great character development. He was a pretty evil guy.

And Mars, don't get me wrong, I AM going to see 28 Weeks Later, though I'm just saying I have doubts on it being superior to the original, I'm also curious as to how they're going to explain how the Infected have started up again when they (seemingly, don't quote me on this) all starved to death at the end of the first one.

Sandman's clothes have living tissue in them...? The only reason I'm being to critical is because... I'm being a critic! Don't take offense if you have a different opinion. I'm critical of a lot of movies, but I haven't said so on many in this forum. I understand that it is a comic book movie but that doesn't make the things in it I deemed ridiculous not-ridiculous. The whole "things I learned" list simply a joke.

I'm going to review some crappy movies in the near future anyway, so that I can vent out the stress from final exams coming up next week.

I wasn't taking offense, and I wasn't having a go, as I said. All I was saying was that, although you have a point, I wouldn't have thought it would be something that significant to mention. Hmm.

I seriously wanted to throttle that little shit.

Also, the part where he adjusts his hair into that "emo fringe" was vomit-inducing. I suppose I better write an official review.

Spiderman 3

Three Hundred Anal Fistings out of Ten.

EDIT:

A less angry, more time delayed review:

Boring. Same old formula, same old CG.

A snooze.

I can't say anything about this movie as it would a) not do the film justice and B) ruin it for you. Jim Carey is fantastic.

See it as soon as possible.

Wonderful film, focusing on a Russian orphan on a quest to find his mother. Like Mars, "I can't say anything about this movie as it would a) not do the film justice and B ) ruin it for you."
