The deer hunter is slightly eclipsed by Goodfellas i think. Great movie nonetheless. As for spiderman 3, i don't think i would waste my money to see it unless it was I-max. |

Can't be bothered typing a long reason why you can't call it genius.

That was a fantastic film, brilliant on a universal scale. I say 'universe' for lack of anything larger that comes to mind. |

Enemy of the State. Will Smith unknowingly gets possession of a tape that contains proof of a government-ordered murder. He is tracked and following by Agents wanting to recover the tape and destroy it. Will Smith seeks help from 'Brill' (Gene Hackman) and ex-agent who is skilled with all of the technology that is being used against them. High action chases, Gun fights, Explosions, Tracking Satellites, this movie has it all. The movie has a few plot twists but other than that is easy to follow. Good acting, realistic plot, overall I give this movie a 10/10. |

Sorry for bringing up something so old (and double posting) but I have a question about the film. The entire movie was simply a story told by one soldier, but at the end he says "One year ago today (blah blah blah)." I was so confused. After killing the 300 Spartans why didn't Xerxes and his men march over the mountains and take over and enslave all of Sparta? Why did it take him a full year? On another note... At Euro: How the fuck can the plot get a 7/10 when it is based on a true story. Are you...rating real life? Are we even allowed to do that? |

I'll leave the plot quibble for European Son (even though your proposal, Dneezy, is completely fallacious). On the topic of 300, didn't you see the movie? The 300 Spartans held out for long enough, preventing Xerxes from overrunning Sparta. Good timing was a factor when the rest of the Spartans were sent out to kick Xerxes in the nuts as he was gloating in victory. |

Did you party with El last night? I'm not sure what point you're trying to make, but I'll explain logic to you nevertheless. When we, as an audience are presented with a dramatized story, we respond in a range of possible ways. We may be enthralled, bored or sickened for example. In the case of 300, I wasn't overly impressed with the plot, and how the director chose to develop it. Just in case you still haven't grasped this concept... Example:
This event just happened, and is indeed a 'true story.' If it were presented in a film format, the plot would almost certainly be pathetically boring. In the case of 300, it is based around true story, distorted myth and Hollywood tweaking. It's not a documentary, it's a fictitious feature film. So yes, we're allowed to do that. |

Point Retracted. (heh) When you say we are allowed to do that, I am not quite sure if you are mocking what I said, or simply saying we are in fact allowed to do what you just clarified. What I was saying was that Rating real life could possibly (if you smoke enough weed) be the equivalent of Rating God's Creativity. |

I assume you're referring to natural evolutionary progression, and yes if it was presented in a dramatized format, we'd be 'allowed' criticize. Importantly, you criticize the plot's delivery as well as it's narrative qualities. (I see an Evolution vs. Creation debate thread a' coming.) |

Rating "God's Creativity" is equivalent to rating your wallpaper's IQ. Note: If there's a ballsy Creationist looking for a fight, feel free to start it up. In another thread. Back on topic. |
