Updated article This happened recently. According to the British Army, the troops were not - contradictory to what Iran says - in Iranian waters. Full details in the article. This new freeze is sure to heat the situation up. Thoughts? |

This is a very difficult position for Britain. They cannot admit that their sailors were inside the border because that would fuel debate about the west not caring about the east and just wanting the oil, while also making them look weak to terrorists. On the other hand they need to resolve this as soon as possible so that the oil price will steady off and so they can get the men (and women) home. As for the Americans "exercise" all the effort of getting together 2 carrier battle groups together, if that's not a show of force i don't know what is! i short the sailors needs should come first they may have been doing the wrong this but they were probably ordered to and should be looked after not forgotten over petty politics. |

I really don't understand your point at all. According to Naval GPS systems, the Naval ships were actually in Iraqi waters at the time of capture, therefore I smell an international 'incident'. This is just a bargaining chip for the Iranian administration to play with, while keeping the coalition nations on their toes. The worst that could happen is a complete bloodbath, or stand-off between each opposing authority, possible sparking US-led strikes (which have been boiling for years now.) The best outcome would be appeasement, sadly. |

I heard about this on the news this morning. I normally stay out of the Debate section, but... That's got to be the stupidest thing ever. How childish! You are a country, not a toddler! I fell bad for the soldiers, and I'm angry that Iran would do something like that. Coming from this arrogant American, (no spellcheck this time!) something as petty as this is just stupid. I understand the reasoning behind it, but if you take a step back, they're just playing games. Don't mess with Britain. |

Has been, is, and probably (unfortunately) will be.
For Iran's sake, they damn well better be being fairly treated. |

We can't launch a nuclear strike. For starters it would be genocide. I don't think I need to give any more reasons. |

I just talked to a relative in the army or whatever. He's a guy in charge of getting the Black Hawks off the ground. Apparently, he was ordered to send a small group of Special Ops over the Iranian border, and leave them to find their way back on their own. Less than five minutes after dropping the small group of soldiers off, an army of Iranian soldiers came marching over the hill. The Special Ops had to retreat. The operation was supposedly designed to see how much Iran's military has been built up. But that was almost a year ago. Can't you just STOP IT with the crap, Middle East? |

I see they haven't ceased the strict confidentiality and professionalism training for special ops operatives then?
I just got a text from them, and it appears they've read your post and are willing to negotiate. It read: "Kk tel strmy we cn tawk, oil sukz xx" For god's sake, tell me you aren't serious... |
