Yes, but imposing heavier laws on gun control will reduce the amount of illegal firearms as it will be harder to obtain it anyway.

It depends on how tight they make the laws. If they increase them slightly, it won't be much harder for the massacre-minded to arm themselves. But if the notch is cranked up much higher, yes.

Where do you think all these "illegal" guns are coming from.

Gun shops, pawn shops, stolen from Wal-Mart, the southern border, the list is endless.

Perhaps since the majority of shooting-rampages seem to be coming from troubled young people, raise the age limit?

That's a pretty stupid thing to say.

If many stores aren't even checking I.D., which has been implied in many articles relating to the issue, what would change?

The guns will be there regardless. Remember that parents of students are most likely to own guns as well.

This is a matter of a blindingly idiotic sense of patriotism that a frighteningly high portion of your population chooses to buy into, and a blatant lack of faith in your security forces.

If that's the kind of country that people want to live there lives in, then they're most welcome to defend themselves (or pose great danger to their family).

Exactly and by making gun control laws stricter, it will be harder to get these guns from gun shops, pawn shops and so on. This is what i am saying.

But if they are stolen or smuggled, it would still be possible for people to illegally get their hands on them. Just not as easy.

A small improvement is still an improvement.

Although it may a be a small, good improvement, it only slows the killers down.

A waste of time in my opinion.

This pretty much destroys most of the 'what if the victims were armed' tripe...

I am new here. I know the Mod but yeah.
To give some background I am a New Yorker by birth but currently reside in Australia. I was asked to chime in and I will.
To be blunt I am pro gun control for the simple reason that I think it will solve more problems than it will cause.

First to deal with the 'more guns means that Cho would have gotten capped before he had a chance to kill to many people argument'. This is foolish because it fails at every step. In Virginia gun control is basically nil. Anyone in that room could have a piece on them if they wanted, an essential to stopping it with more guns. Yet no one did, because normal people don't carry guns around, and allowing concealed weapons is not likely to change that, I mean talking plausibly. Also you need to prove that more guns in that room would have solved the problem. While this is probable, it would also create more problems. Aggravated assaults could quickly turn into passionate murder if many people were concealing. And of course the more concealed weapons the more fire fights.

I don't have the time now but I will type later about the first amendment and about illegal weapons, and also general american gun culture.

Welcome and an excellent post. You basically summed up what myself and European Son said but added the interesting fact about most students not carrying guns. Makes sense.
