http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=...ec=Worldupdates Kosovo was declared independent from Serbia yesterday, backed by the US and a few major western European powers. However, a lot of eastern Europe, particularly Russia, is not too pleased. I certainly hope this little irritant will not rise to violence and cause World War three. |

How would you like it if the state of New Mexico was to become part of Mexico now just because it is overrun with illegal mexican aliens. Let me explain why the US is so into making Kosovo independent. You see after the War (1999) the UN organized a treaty that made Kosovo under UN control until violence settles down and the illegal aliens (Albanians) stop killing serbs and vice versa. its been what 9 yearss since the war ended and nothing has changed. The US's (Not UN) biggest military base in Eastern Europe just happens to located near Pristina, the capital of Kosovo. Obviously they would have to leave eventually when they would finally allow Kosovo to be part of Serbia again. But now that is impossible and they will continue operations there. The question now is why do they need a base there? Easy answer. Russia. While the cold war is over there are still strong tensions between the two superpowers. As you mentioned Lumpy, Russia is not to pleased. One is that obviously it will mean rising tensions between Georgia, Chechnya and Russia. Those two states will now have more incentive to make there own independence reforms. That's also why Spain and Greece have condemned independence. Obviously another reason is that Russia wants to oppose anything the US does and they are as close an ally to Serbia as is possible (Both orthodox). And the other reason is that the Russians don't want American presents to close to their soil. I think its a well known fact that Albanians and serbs hate each other. There are many reasons and I really hope that this doesn't spark any violence. I'm not talking about the nations government getting involved, but hooligans and young nationalists going about killing Albanians. The Serbian government of now is nowhere near like Milosevic, and the last thing they want is war. I can tell you a story about what happened in WW1 if you want concerning Serbs, the Allies and the Albanians. Just ask. I believe thats where the hate started. Anyway, just for a moment, think of what its like from the Serb point of view. First they bombed us, then they blackmailed us ("Give us two war criminals or you won't join the EU. Serbia has demanded over and over that they have no idea where Mladic and karadzic are). And now they have taken 15% of our land. And all we have done is brake five windows of their Embassy. |

I'm in opposition to violence--->intervention--->global conflict, not a neo-conservative american freak who seeks total western domination. I understand why Russia's pretty pissed at us, and I don't want that to escalate. America needs to learn to leave the rest of the world alone or it's going to come back to bite us in the ass. |
