Once the government is free to tap phone lines in the interest of "national security", the potential for abuses are mind-boggling. Big Brother truly will be monitoring our every move, and we will have become everything we once reviled about the old Soviet Union. |

The potential for abuse always exists anyway. Conducting reasonable and necessary surveillance of the named enemy during a congressionally authorized war does not suddenly make abuse possible. If we find out about abuse, let's do something about it: take legal action or vote people out. However, until then, implying "abuse" is just partisan speculation designed to weaken the Bush administration--with the unfortunate side-effect of weakening the nation in this War on Terror. |

Well the guys who would be abusing are the guys at NSA. And they can't control you just because they hear you on the phone. Its not like communist countries where they would arrest you for talking against the government or anything. |

This is why I have a hard time believing anything you say. A senator is elected for 6 years. Representatives are elected for 2. Basic facts. Just out of curiosity, how old are you? I sincerely doubt that the Republicans will nominate McCain. Hell, I'd even vote for him. He's what they call a RINO (Republican In Name Only). He's as liberal of a Republican you can get. I think the GOP will push the envelope with an even more conservative candidate. What the Dems needed in the last election was not a guy like Kerry, they needed a guy who was the "Anti-Bush," but less crazy than Howard Dean. Russ Feingold would have been the best choice - the only Senator to vote against the PATRIOT Act. For the Afgan war (which everybody was), against the Iraq War (since there was no reason to go there in the first place). No "flip-flopping" there. McCain actually considered running as Kerry's running mate - given the success of the McCain/Feingold Act on electoral contributions, the two might hook up again. Imagine, a bipartisan ticket. |

McCain would allay my fears of a GOP ersatz theocracy. He is indeed a RINO and that, combined with his age, will prevent him from getting the nomination. Mores the pity. I hope Hillary doesn't run. Not because I feel she is unqualified, but she would be a polarizing candidate like no one save Newt on the GOP side. Just what America needs. More party line hatred and self abuse from both sides. If the GOP is smart, they'll put Brownback in against whomever the Democrats elect to run. I don't want to see him in office, but I think there's some sense in the man. However, I fear more of the same GOP flat Earth society members in the White House. I do have hopes, however slim, that marginal gains can be made by the Democratic party in both the House and Senate. A pipe dream, perhaps. Who should the Democratic party elect to run for President? I don't know at this point. The supposed liberal media isn't exactly running Democratic platform planks out for discussion. This country is having far too much fun sniping at itself and cutting of it's nose to spite it's face. Briliant. Absolutely brilliant.

If Kerry/Clinton win, then I definitely predict that another 9/11 will occur and the administration wouldn't give 2 hoots. |

Hahahahaha, "can anyone beat the republicans?" The Republican party is going straight to hell right now. The Democrats own 2008. THU, I love you saying how the democratic party is "messed up." Which party is going through a [lot] of scandals right now? Hell, your good buddy Dick Cheney just shot a guy. Have fun losing in 08, republicans. |

Yeah, Bush is great at fighting terrorism. Which is why Osama is still on the loose. If another 9/11 happens, it will not have anything to do with who the president is. Good to see that the Bush administration succeeded in brainwashing half of the country into believing it's bullshit. "Woot for Republican power!" What Republican power? What is dubya's approval rating right now? 34%? Recent polls have shown that the country is turning against the republicans. The tide is turning, and by 2008 the democrats will be regaining power quickly. |

Its good to see you know your facts. The President is the one out there looking for him right. The best military in the world can't find him I guarentee it's not anybody's fault. I bet he's in Iran or Pakistan. Plus hardly anybody votes in those approval ratings. I'd say the best approval rating would be oh say the 2004 election. It certainly was a good one. The Republicans still own the Senate and House of Reps., and basically the Supreme Court. Regardless of the President the Republicans will still have control like it should be. |

I don't see the democrats winning for atleast another 3 terms, McCain, Jeb Bush, I think they could go for the next 18 years without losing. |
