A lot is being made of the words "under God" in the pledge of allegiance. Movements are being established to remove them. Popular urban legends say that Pepsi and/or Coke are producing new cans with the words omitted (but it isn't true). So, do those words offend you?

I can tell you for sure, they don't offend me. I see no reason whatsoever to remove them. They're part of our history. This country was founded on religious principles, so why remove "under God?"

I understand some don't want to say those words. Fine. Some of us do. That should be fine, too.

Hahahahaha, I love when people use the argument the the country was founded like that, because the words 'under god' were only added in 1954. It was NOT like that when frist written in 1892

I think so too, I don't know if they've made any modifications lately, but I know it was until the 1950's it was very different.

Well Element, learn how to read. I know that the pledge originally didn't have those words in it, that aint what I said. But you can't say that our country wasn't founded on religious principles.

Like I've always been saying, it's the democratic party that always makes the big deal on everything, you never see the Republicans complaining on the News. It's the reason why the Dems have the logo they do.

Telling someone to learn how to read is pretty childish, he's just making his point, and a good point at that, they should just leave it the way it was, I could care less what it said on the flag, just leave it. One thing, I do think that the original is definetly the better one, because it's less likely to have people complaining about it. That's all I have to say about that.

I will tell him to learn how to read when he tries to make me look foolish for saying something that I did not say. What would you prefer me to say, "Uhm, Element, could you kindly go back and read what I said again, please? I think you might be mistaken as to what I actually said." Would that be better?

I'm not going to start with you, but yes, that's what you should say. It's better than telling someone who can clearly read, that he needs to know how to read.

It shouldn't offend anybody because they have the right not to say it, and we aren't forcing any religon its just 2 words.

It should never have been added, but there's no point in taking it out now.

We have a kid read it with the school announcements every day before lunch, and if he/she wants to say under god they can, but they don't have to. That works fine for me.

Was slavery a religious institution? Our country was founded with slavery being legal.

And if I remember correctly, we do have freedom of religion, and not everyone here believes in god. Far from it.

And you did imply that the country was founded with 'under god' in the pledge.

All this stuff about founding our country based on religion is stupid crap. It's been well over 200 years, a lot of stuff has changed since 1776. And if we are worried about keeping ideas from then other than our rights, we have a serious problem on our hands.
