The words "under God" in the pledge of allegiance; does it offend you?

To some, Delgado is going to be the slugging savior for the Mets. Others call him a traitor. Is he two people? No.

To some, God is the One who led their people out of bondage. To others, he is the One who sacrificed his Son. To yet others, he is the one who revealed himself to Mohammed. Is He three different Gods? No. All three groups say they worship the God of Abraham.

Some may be completely wrong in what they think about God's plans. There are, no doubt, false prophets out there. I won't say whether Islam is a true faith or is based on false prophecy. That is between God and the Muslims. However, it is absolutely possible for God to deal with different groups of people differently and yet still be the same God. I dealt with my kids differently (because they were different people), yet I was still one parent.

As far as God allowing one group of his followers to declare war on the other two: God gave us free will. We can follow Him--or not. What He allows is choice. It is people who subsequently take that choice and, sometimes, do evil with it. That evil can range from fairly inconsequential sins all the way up to mass murder.

Personally, I like the idea that I can choose to follow God or not. That means that I am not an automation. It means that I am a person. I don't think God wanted automatons. He knew that automatons programmed to love Him would be meaningless. He knew that persons choosing to love Him would be meaningful. He just also knew that allowing people to choose to love Him also meant that He would be allowing others to choose not to love Him, to choose to turn away from Him toward evil, and to choose to sin (including making war in His name, dishonestly).

You know what? I just realized I stated that wrong in my original post.

If He is really the same God, then why does he instruct all 3 to do different things individually? And why is He OK with one of the groups declaring war on the other 2?

What I should have said is this, "If He is really the same God, then why does He declare war on the other 2?" Thats right, in the Koran, Allah declares jihad on all infidels (people who worship different gods). And yes, in the Muslims eyes, Christians worship a different god than Allah. So in a sense, you are saying God tells some of his people to kill some of his other people. That makes absolutely no sense. Just like your whole basic premise that Christianity and Islam are basically the same.

Please show me in the Koran where Allah Himself declares war on Jews and Christians, not where some might think He does, but where He unarguably does.

BTW, my point is that all three religions worship the same God. I did not say they all worshipped Him according to His will. For example, there is zero doubt in my mind that bin Laden's actions are evil and against God's will.

Well, if Americans are going to remove the words, " under God " they might as well remove the words, " In God We Trust " on dollar bills.

Doesn't offend me, but I still don't think it should be placed in it...

It sort of makes me feel uncomfortable because every Monday, we do the pledge in homeroom, and after "Under God" comes up, a goth sitting across from me yells "Heil Satan". :o

It's Paul on a car phone. You're on The Tom Leykis Show with Nancy Powell. Hello.

Paul: I would say that your guest is un-American. I would say that based on the Pledge of Allegiance: "One nation under God" --

Tom (interrupting): Which, by the way, has only been in the Pledge of Allegiance since the 1950s, and was put in during the McCarthy Era. Do you know that?

Paul: I've heard that, and --

Tom (interrupting): Well, it's not just a rumor, Paul, it's not just a rumor. It's a fact.

Paul: Okay.

Tom: Ask your parents.

Paul: Okay. I'll do that. And, I'd also remind you that our currency states a belief in God.

Nancy: That's also a 1950s addition. Before that, it said "E PLURIBUS UNUM"

Just one more reason to abandon government-run education. A government-run school has to "tolerate" that evil little twerp. A private school doesn't have to.
