You dont understand.Back during when our founding fathers were alive not everyone could vote. For Example you must own land in order you can vote.So there should be some rules and regalations before you can vote.

Far more recently than that, there were segments of our society that couldn't vote or had to pass certain "voter aptitude" tests before they could vote. Those tests were written in Latin.
Praytell, what portion of society are you seeking to exclude when you suggest there ought to be "rules and regulations before you vote" ?

Back then only White Men voted, I wouldn't want that now.

High School Dropouts would be twice as likely to vote for a democratic candidate.High School Dropouts would listen to the media and do as they tell em to do.I think Voting is a privledge just like driving a car.If Voting is a right the why cant ex convicts cant vote? You said it yourself diehard

I disagree. If you presume that high school dropouts are "ignorant" (not necessarily true), then you must realize that includes the racists, sexist, intolerant people who are solidly REPUBLICAN.

And dropouts would listen to the media and do what they tell them to do? Like you listen to Rush Limbaugh - who lambasts drug users while popping oxycontin like tic-tacs?

Wait, is there something wrong with voting for Democrats, I'm a Repulcan in a lot of ways, but there is nothing wrong with themhaving a different opinion.

Well put. In MD, we have the deal going on about money for education, where the Republicans want slot machines, and the Democrats don't. The Republican Governor Ehrlich is pro slot machines, and the Democratic opponent is Speaker of the House Michael Busch. His counter to slots is a raise of $.01 to the sales tax in MD, raising it to $.06.

Now, to keep a nice, local community from having the slot machines ruin a town I hold near and dear, and partly grew up in, I am for paying an extra cent on the dollar. Add to the fact I know where the money is going for taxes, but what I don't know is if some racetrack or restaurant owner is skimming the slot money.

I am also a Roman Catholic, with Republican leanings. However, I'm usually lopped in with the religious right, and crackpots like Pat Robertson (who said Mother Theresa is not a saint) and Jimmy Swaggert (who told a priest that trained in the church that his sick parishioner could go to hell.) I hate the fact that these guys speak for me, when I dispise some of their actions.

Here's a thought: Instead of slots, instead of adding raising sales taxes by 20% (not 1%), how about cuttng spending?

Actually, voting is one of the basic rights that our Founding Fathers wanted us to have. Even if they vote democrat, why can't their voice be heard?

Wow! You raked me over the coals for a similar comment, and now its my time to treturn the favor. It was never the founding fathers' opinion that every American citizen should have the right to vote. They knew that the average man was far too stupid, and would be swayed by bribes (similar to tax cuts today) to vote what they truely thought was best. That is why in the early days, you had to have land to vote. You had to pay a poll tax. Do you think just anybody fit those descriptions? And besides, how long did it take for African-Americans and women to earn their voting privildges?

I am not agreeing with everything steveox has said, but I for one am tired of seing you bash him (not his ideas) every time he says something like this. He was right, voting is a privilidge, not a right. Now please stop bashing him (refering to him as the one who comes up with all the "anti-Republican conspiracies"), and actually prove some of his "conspiracies" wrong please. If you disagree with him, thats fine, but stop attacking him and start attacking his ideas.

Voting is not a privilege; it is the basic right that defines a citizen. Those denied it are, in effect, stateless -- people without a country. This is not a partisan issue, but one of basic human rights.

I think voting is a right. Times have changed since the founding father's time. Everybody goes to school (supposed to) and I'm pretty sure people who don't care about school don't care to vote. Not everybody votes, you do have to register and be at least 18, it's not a privelage it is a right. There is no reason one should not vote, voting is kept serious and you really can't abuse your voting rights so there is no reason to be punished in that area. You vote for representitives and it's not fair if not everybody is represented.

If voting is a right, why has everyone who is not white and male been, at some point, denied it? Why has special legislation been required for women and blacks to be allowed to vote?

Times have changed, but the fact remains this is a country founded on "freedom and rights" that has repeatedly denied those same "freedom and rights" to many of its own citizens.
