Any of you pro-war people care to defend this? Please note that the article says this sort of stuff was "virtually nonexistent" under Saddam Hussein. http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/...00.html?cnn=yes Yet another example of why we had NO right to invade and continue to occupy this country. |

Three things to consider: 1. The trains ran on time under Mussolini. 2. Advocacy groups constantly make their causes seem dire by using anecdotal evidence to "estimate" total cases--a intellectually unsound practice. 3. The causes of murders may have changed without Saddam, but the documented deaths as a result of Saddam's regime are many times these "estimated" deaths since his being deposed. Please don't try to imply that there is more death without Saddam than with. |

Its a damned if you do and damned it you dont situation. I for one believe that invading iraq was the wrong thing to do but i also believe that keeping saddam in power would of been deterimental to the usa down the road. The UN is powerless to do anything about roque states such as Iran, N. Korea and other states who support terrorism. Saddam would of just shrugged off the UN and in time would of had the means to destroy a US city by nukes. He was a threat and should of been dealt with in a better manner but the US doesnt condone the assisination of national leaders by its own people which is really stupid. |

Saddam was no more a "threat" to the U.S. than any other Middle Eastern leader - most of whom DO NOT like the U.S. and our penchant for forcing our ways on other nations. Exactly how prepared are we to invade every "enemy" country? Clearly, we are already pondering invading Iran (while still dealing with messes in Iraq and Afghanistan). Who's next? North Korea? A rogue former Soviet republic? An African nation led by Marxists? When did the United States become a bully nation? Was it when we cut off relations with Cuba - when we adopted the "play my way or I'm taking my ball home" policy? This is appalling. We have strayed so far from the nation we could be, should be....it is sickening. |

The US has become the nation its people wanted to make it. While there are things I'd like to change (and will work for those changes), this country generally does not "sicken" me. If I ever got to the point where I was "sickened" by my country (I don't foresee this happening), I would think that I'd start looking for a country that didn't. France is not a "bully" nation. They surrender at the drop of a hat (including to their own first-time job-holders who think they are owed a job from which they cannot be fired. Parlez-vous Francais? |

Oui. Je parle francais un peu.....3 years in high school, which means that's about all I remember!! Why should I leave a country my ancestors helped to build? I will stay because I know like all things, politics are cyclical. We will eventually move from this macho, I'm-bigger-than-you-so-I-can-bully-you mentality. |

Sorry but that was pretty Good Like my good old Friend Johnny English said "The only thing the French should be able to host, is an invasion" lol  |

I never said anyone should go anywhere. However, now that it has been brought up, why would anyone want to stay someplace that "sickens" them? Particularly when there are so many countries with policies that don't "sicken"! (I don't really advocate anyone going anywhere. I just think people should put more thought into their word choices and make those choices less inflammitorily hyperbolic. It "sickens" me when they don't.) |

Because, as I said, politics is cyclical. The policies that sicken me and are a disgrace to the heritage and principles of this country will eventually pass....therefore, no need to leave, just a matter of waiting it out. |
