My 2006 All-Star Team

AL
C: Joe Mauer
1b: Paul Konerko (Giambi close, but Konerko has plenty more hits)
2b: Jose Lopez (yes, Jose Lopez)
3b: Hank Blalock or Troy Glaus
SS: Derek Peter
OF: Vlad
OF: Alex Rios
OF: Jermaine Dye

NL
C: Josh Willingham (average a little weak, but leader in HRs for catchers in NL)
1b: Albert Pujols (no doubt about it, even though I hate him because he kills my Reds)
2b: Brandon Phillips or Chase Utley (thats right, Brandon Phillips)
3b: David Wright
SS: BILL HALL ( what a surprise, leading NL SS in home runs) and maybe Nomar if he keeps it up
OF: Alfonso Soriano (what a great season, glad I got to see him in Cincy)
OF: KEN GRIFFEY JR.
OF: Jason Bay

Tell me your thoughts. This was pretty tough.

Neither is Ortiz, and he's leading the ballot.

This is just my opinion, don't cut me down for it. This is who I think should be starting in the All Star game:

SP: Mussina, NYY

C: Joe Mauer, MIN
1B: Travis Hafner, CLE
2B: Brian Roberts, BAL
3B: Troy Glaus, TOR
SS: Miguel Tejada, BAL
LF: Carl Crawford, TB
CF: Vernon Wells, TOR
RF: Ichiro Suzuki, SEA

That team could probably beat ANYTHING that the NL could throw at us. It has speed up and down the lineup, it has solid power, and every one of those players has an OBP well over .350.

That is based purely upon who I think deserves it terms of actual performance, not fan bias. If you would like to disagree with me, or know why I chose those players, let me know. I've got an easy 5-10 reasons for each. The sad thing is, I'd say none of those players will be starting due to total New York, Boston, and even Chicago (to a lesser extent) fan bias.

This is a good team; however, Jermaine Dye would be a better choice then Crawford.

i'd have to disagree of course, the speed and avg. makes up for the HRs Dye has, and defense

Oh yea, the one point in their BA makes up for alot. But I'd agree, I think I'd rather have Carl Crawford in it, he's been doing a bit better.

This just shows how "fans" vote purely on name recognition. No way Chris Shelton should be in 5th place....his performance this season is definitely worthy of All-Star recognition.

And I realize Ortiz is being voted in as first baseman because there'll be no DH....but he's not being voted in for how he's performed this season so far, which has been erratic and mediocre, at best. Same for my A-Rod.

It pays to be popular.....

.290 12 homers 30 RBIs

That's pretty average.
