I know they have it in the NFL, but do MLB contracts have bonuses in them for making the All Star Team? I always thought they did...

Because there's no DH in the All-Star Game this year (it's in Pittsburgh), and the Red Sox had to figure out a way to get him on the ballot.....might as well have listed him as a SS, he plays that about as often as he plays 1B....

Unless you've played a certain number of games at a paticular position then you shouldn't be allowed on the ballot at that position, Youk should be their representative at 1B.

Ortiz isn't as bad at first base as you all think. Everyone acts like he can barely move and can't catch the ball while he does just fine over there.

Yea, he doesn't ply first base. He's never played more than 45 games at first in a season, so for him to go on the ballot as a first basemen is retarded, I mean then why isn't Thome on the ballot as a first basemen?

Yeah you're right... Thome should be on and IDK what to say about Ortiz. I wish he wasn't there at all, but what can I say, if he's elected to the ASG, we'll have to see him play first.

Honestly I feel the same way about the ASG as most people -- it's a poularity contest. Personally I would love it if some combination of managers/players/coaches voted for who deserved to be in the game, because I think they'd be fair and not just look at team.

Are you guys serious? First base is his position when he plays the fiield... t's not his fault that theres a national league where theres no DH. THome isn't on the ballot because I believe the White Sox have another first baseman who was expected to have a better season than Thome whose name is Paul Konerko. Grow up guys.

So its ok for a guy to be elected to the ASG for a position he doesn't play more than 45 times a year?

So you honestly think someone who RARELY plays a position deserves a spot on the All Star team over someone who plays that same position EVERY DAY?

Well I feel that someone whos good enough to be on the team should be on it. Even if they put Ortiz listed as a C, he'd lead in it.

Who cares what everybody else thinks? If it makes the team better, that's all that is important.

It's not a matter of being on the team, it's the matter of starting at a position they don't play.

It's unfair to the rest of the people that do play that position. Say David Ortiz was listed as Catcher, it would be unfair to Victor Martinez and Joe Mauer and both of them would never start in the ASG.

But he's not a first basemen, thats the problem. Yea, I just realized the problem with Thome, since Konerko is there. But Kevin Youkilis should be there instead, SINCE FIRST BASE IS HIS POSITION.

He is a first baseman. DH is not a defensive position... he can play first base with decent defense. He just doesn't happen to play first everyday but he does when it's necessary. Your going to say he can't play cause he doesn't have a position? First base is his position in the field.

He has played 1B 3 times this year. THREE GAMES! I do think Ortiz is an all-star, but not as a first baseman. He can still play decent defense. The AL should still have the DH rule even though they are playing in the Pirates ballpark, because that is what they AL is used to. There are great DH's like David Ortiz who are not great fielders. He is decent, not good.
