Shows how women get off quite a bit easier than men, everyone always takes the woman's word over man's word, with women it's not innocent until proven guilty anymore. |

You guys are truly cracking me up. You sit around blaming women for all your pathetic problems and the "unfairness" of the system.....here's a newsflash: WOMEN DIDN'T MAKE THESE LAWS. MEN DID. You complain that men shouldn't have to pay child support - or anything that would entitle THEIR children to live in a way they would be supported if there were no divorce - and yet I'll bet the same ones saying women shouldn't get support would also complain if a woman needed government assistance. With you guys, women can't win. If we marry you, we set ourselves up to be taken for granted, cheated on, and potential emotional and physical abuse. If we DON'T marry you, we're selfish man-haters. No spitting, I won't ever find myself in that type of situation. I would rather be locked in a room full of vipers than ever get married.....at least with the vipers, I know what kind of snakes I'm dealing with. |

Where did I say hitting is ok - by ANYONE??? Sheer numbers - and common sense - back up the FACT that most abusers are MEN and most victims of abuse are WOMEN. I suppose next you're going to try to convince me that most rapists aren't men either..... |

Spittin: I have a friend, he's a grown man now, but when we were younger, he would rarely come out and play with the rest of us....why? He was too busy sitting in his house, staring out the living room window, waiting for his dad, who always promised to come and take him places on the weekends, and never did. His mom did not want to bad mouth his father, so what could she do? Sit every weekend and watch her child get hurt over and over. Now, according to you guys, if the mom had said "go out and play with your friends, your POS dad isn't coming," she would be wrong. Of course, he eventually grew up and lost all respect and regard for his dad. I guess that's his mom's fault too, according to you guys. Yeah, there are some good fathers out there...but there are also a lot of men out there who aren't worth a bag of hot garbage, and you know it. Stop playing "all men stick together" and face facts. |

They are created by men who make a profit off a corrupt court system. Again, Washington state makes, in profit, $9 million from their 'business' of child support every year. There are the men who are profiting. Doesn't matter who made it, it is still set up to be anti-men as seen in child support and divorce cases. |

No. The laws were created to keep women out of the workforce and still dependent on men they were no longer married to. Gloria Steinem once said that she would know true equality had been reached in our society when a young man in high school or college asked her if he could have a job AND a family.....a question young women STILL ask. You see, our society STILL expects women to raise the children and maintain the home - even if they have jobs outside the home. Child support and alimony laws - created by MEN - were designed to keep women out of the workforce and dependent on their ex-husbands to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table. Men may be called deadbeat dads.....but women are blamed for the breakdown of society. It's women's fault for the divorce rate; it's women's fault that kids join gangs because their mothers aren't at home; it's women's fault that there's no male role model in the house. Being called a "deadbeat dad" and being expected to financially support your children is a heckuva lot better than being blamed for every problem in the world. |

You make it seem like men are always to blame. What if it were the wife that did the abusing, cheating, and neglecting? Should she get the kids and he have to pay for her mistakes? |

You know why the divorce rate used to be low? Because women did stay at home and look after kids while the father worked. THAT SYSTEM WORKED. If I am marrying a women, why would I marry someone who isn't home before I am, and can't cook me and my family a meal? |

No. No abusive or neglectful parent should have custody of the kids. But the courts would probably give a woman who did those things custody anyway. Why? Because the alimony and/or child support paying father would then still have some degree of control over her life, without the responsibility of hands-on parenting. |

Worked for who? Who got stuck sitting at home, wondering what happened to all their hopes and dreams and goals? Who got stuck keeping a beautiful home, raising good kids, then got kicked to the curb at age 55 for an 18 year old? Who did it work for? |

What are you talking about? In the old system, it worked for all parties. Way more than it does now. People didn't dump 55 yr olds. The divorce rate used to be miniscule. It was a big deal to be divorced. In my extended family, we have only had one divorce, and that was a big deal. (One of Seven kids by the way) Everyone else is still faithful, and I don't see another divorce happening. |

That's true. The shame of divorce kept people - men and women - locked in unhappy, loveless marriages. But it also didn't stop people from having "extras" on the side. In my family, there were no divorces among my grandparents or parents. Among my siblings, the 4 that have tried marriage have all gotten divorced. |

Plenty of happy marriages those days... I'm sure you can go to any time, anywhere, people have been getting stuff on the side. ok, so how about this. Why get married? There is nothing in it for a guy, unless he wants to get some, and can't get it any other way. |

Happy? Or, for women, stuck? Because there were few options in the "good ol days". Not many jobs a woman could support herself with, not to mention society's pressures on "old maids". I see no reason at all to get married. |

I removed an argument from here and warned the poster who hurled the insult that started it. Personal attacks will not be tolerated in Politics. We haven't had any flame wars here in DHB's Politics, which is absolutely amazing for any Politics subforum. Let's keep it that way. If you can't disagree with another poster without saying something ugly about the poster, don't post. Take what they say to task. Be harsh in criticism of their ideas. But, leave the PERSON alone. No ad hominem. |

There's no need to carry this on. We'll just have to agree to disagree, because none of us is going to change the others' beliefs. And there's no need for us to argue. |
