Let's first clear this up.....this thread is about flag-burning as a sign of protest, not the burning of a flag when it is being "retired" from duty. Now, having said that....It is my observation that when people burn the flag, they are doing so as a sign of protest against government policies. Expressing your opposition to government policies is a constitutionally-protected RIGHT in this country.....and a right those WW1, WW2, Korean, and Vietnam war veterans fought for. We may not always agree with the way people show their dissent, but an amendment to take away one right would be the beginning of the end of ALL rights. |

no.....i am sorry....you are wrong. the burning of the UNITED STATES of AMERICA FLAG is nothing more than what the act is.....THE BURNING of your NATIONAL EMBLEM (ENGIGN) of citizenship......therefore......DESICRATING it. there are plenty of words to form expressive speech by way of mouth to declare all the misgivings one has with his nation's (gov't) policies......without abusing THE GRAND OLD FLAG ......to say the US FLAG must be allowed to be used this way is ABSOLUTLEY BOGUS. if burning the US FLAG is actually ona par with vocallized speech....then that which one is }saying" by doing it is: 1.. i hate the USA 2. i hate /eschew my citizenship in her 3. i want nothing more to do with living in the USA ....can expect me to be leaving soon. sometimes an issue is so simple...the "auguste" brain trust known as the HIGH COURT.....makes it confoundidly difficult. here is how this issue should have been decided by a child: a. speech is vocallized/or written. b. burning anything with fire does not utter a single word..nor write one down anywhere......therefore....NOT SPEECH c. burning something is an ACT . ....has effects on ONLY the object burned. so.....go SPEAK against the US GOV'T all you want.....LEAVE MY FLAG THAT I FOUGHT UNDER ALONE. |
