This was a hot discussion on the Mariners broadcast today. Do you guys think the All Star Game should give home field advantage?

I say no. The team with the best record should get HFA. The problem is, it's league vs. league, not team vs. team. So say it was Astros vs. Tigers in the World Series, and let's say the Tigers won 100 games and the Astros won 85 or so. But the NL wins the All-Star game. Who really deserves the HFA? Tigers. (Those were just team names). It's the players in the league that are being tested, not the individual teams like it should be.

Also, if basically all players need to play and every team is represented, you aren't getting the best players, which totally screws up the system.

It's an exhibition. It shouldn't be worth anything. It's just for fun.

Bah.

I agree, the home field advantage should go to the best record. And also how unfair is it that one of the teams (this year NL) have a homefield advantage in the game that determines WS homefield advantage.

Yeah but it gives meaning to the game, maybe the players wouldn't try if it didn't mean anything *idunno*

Nah, if they don't wanna play they could just say so and they don't have to. Plenty of other would like to. :P

I like the idea. It's more fun to watch if you know it means something.
