Look, half the people here has never seen him pitch, so how did you expect them to rank him... Hernandez could throw gas and reach the high 90s. He has a sharp slider and a good curve...compared to Verlander and Jered, hes far better...both have good-avg stuff... The problem with Hernandez is his control...If he could gain that, he would be one of the top pitchers in the league... |

I couldn't agree more. ![]() Felix has shown that he can have control, he just has to find it sometimes. Last year he had it. Felix can throw a 98 MPH fastball, has a nasty curve, great changeup, and also has a slider that he's not allowed to throw. All of these are way above average. He just makes 1-2 mistakes a game, and that costs him big time. Might I add he's 20? The youngest of ALL of these players here. |

How does Verlander have good to average stuff if he was the #1 righthanded pitching prospect in baseball? I think it takes more than that to achieve that. |

Yeah, how about a team thats in a good streak, a team that comes up with the supporting runs to drive him to 10 wins? Not all of his wins came from dominating games...his stuff is definitley good, but not as good as Hernandez's... |

Looking at the recent success of Verlander and Billingsly's failure in his one start, I'd have to say Baseball America was off on that one. |

You can't judge a player by a half a year in the bigs... That's silly. It proves nothing. |

Eh, I'm a Dodger hater so I had to throw Billingsly's bad start in there somehow But still, I definitely think Verlander is a solid major league pitcher right now and better than most names on the list. |

Verlander is good, we're not taking anything away from him. But this is an elite class of names, these young guys are. Nonetheless, Verlander is still something special. |

Liriano Weaver Kaz Verlander Hernandez Santana in that order. |
![]() Hanley Ramirez doesn't make errors--the ball is just afraid of him. Shadez was the first man to walk on the moon... with sunglasses on. In rookie ball, he drove a ball to deep centerfield, only to be informed he had been traded on his way to first base. So, he sprinted to the wall and robbed himself of a homerun. He can turn a man to stone just by looking at him without his shades. Was pointed at when Babe Ruth supposedly called his shot. The June 24th game between the Marlins and Yankees was not, in fact, called by rain as was previously reported. Hanley had plans. And by plans we mean a date. With a girl. A babe if you will.

Oh, I seem to remember at the beginning of the season one of the sources said Verlander was the 2nd best pitching prospect behind Liriano, I'll try and dig up a link for you. edit: ok I just looked around a little. the Baseball America list has him 2nd, one spot behind Billingsley, and the Sporting News list has him second, one spot behind Papelbon. And to gonetosleep about Verlander just having good stuff, funny, because Baseball America describes it as "dominant". |

1. Jon Papelbon (He won't get worn out faster thus him being able to have his dominent pitches in the future) 2. Justin Verlander (hitting will give you more runs not making Verlander a better pitcher. The hitters arent the ones who go out there and get the low 3 ERA. Plus this guy won't be put into the drivers seat two fast so he won't have pressure on him like Kazmir and the Rays) 3. Liriano (Will have Johan Santana to help him but will be put into the drivers seat with Johan putting pressure on him which im guessing might make him not produce) 4. Felix Hernandez (His stuff is good yes but his team is bad and when he makes mistakes he pays for them and gets losses for them because his team can't rebound) 5. Ervin Santana (Should learn from the best of them but his consisant ERA to stay around a mid 4 scares me away) 6. Scott Kazmir (Being on a bad team will greatly hurt his win total and him being pushed to the number 1 spot likely next season puts a ton of pressure to perform) 7. Jared Weaver (Reminds me way too much of his brother to put him any higher) |

A friend of mine posted these stats on my site and I just wanted to share them with you. Francisco Liriano:2.43 xFIP 10.40 K/9 4.70 K/BB Scott Kazmir:3.72 xFIP 9.71 K/9 2.95 K/BB Justin Verlander:4.66 xFIP 5.61 K/9 2.09 K/BB Ervin Santana:4.96 xFIP 6.41 K/9 2.30 K/BB Felix Hernandez:3.47 xFIP 8.51 K/9 3.16 K/BB Jered Weaver:3.96 xFIP 8.37 K/9 6.20 k/BB* That's xFIP. These stats suggest that: 1. Justin Verlander has been VERY lucky. 2. Liriano is a god. 3. Felix Hernandez has been REALLY unlucky. 4. Kazmir wasn't really lucky or unlucky. 5. Weaver's small sample size was VERY VERY VERY lucky. 6. Santana was pretty lucky. So since almost all of you are judging on this year's stats, this is how you would rank them by xFIP: 1. Liriano 2. Hernandez 3. Kazmir 4. Weaver 5. Santana 6. Verlander And xFIP is WAYYY better than ERA. |
