I do believe that Crushed apologized for ommiting Papelbon. Here is mine: 1). Liriano (WTF wasn't he named to the AL AST? ) 2). Papelbon (Crushed said we could add him if we wanted) 3). Hernandez 4). Kazmir 5). Verlander 6). Weaver 7). Santana |

My List Francisco Liriano- Age: 22 ERA: 1.96 12-2 137 K's 32 BB At age 22, Liriano is absolutely amazing. He has arguably the best slider in the game, and has a fastball in the low to mid 90's to go with it. He leads the league in ERA, and is fourth in strikeouts. Possible Cy Young AND ROY candidate. Man this dude is filthy. And I mean that in a good way. Justin Verlander- Age- 23 ERA- 2.67 13-4 88 K's 36 BB Only 9 months older than Liriano, Tigers rookie righthander Justin Verlander has the best mechanics I have seen in a while. Although his strikeout numbers aren't off the charts, he has had a blister on his right knuckle for a good portion of the season which prevents him from throwing his strikeout, and best pitch. His knuckle curve. His long, lanky figure allows him to pitch comfortably in the low to mid 90's, and crank it up into the high 90's, even triple digits when he wants to. Verlander has the best pickoff move in the league in my opinion, with 4 pickoffs I have seen, and probably a couple more in the games I didn't watch. Scott Kazmir- Age- 22 ERA-3.36 10-7 139 K’s 46 BB When you look at Kazmirs W/L record, you have to consider the team he plays for. The lowly Tampa Bay Devil Rays. So I won’t go looking at his Wins because of that. His ERA is not great, but in the middle of great and good. He is a strikeout machine with 139 K’s, 3rd in the MLB. I feel that Kazmir’s future is up there with Verlander and Liriano, and I had a very, very, very hard time trying to figure out who to put where. I would have no problem having either of the three at the number 1 spot. Felix Hernandez- Age: 20 ERA- 4.60 9-9 113 K’s 42 BB At age 20, King Felix is the youngest of the bunch here. He can hurl a fastball in there in the high 90’s, but has some control problems when he needs to find the strikezone. I also find that he makes a lot of mistakes when he pitches, which can add up to costly runs. However, he is young and with the right training he can be taught very easily. It’s hard for me to put Felix down this low, but with talents like Kazmir, Liriano, and Verlander, I have no choice. Jered Weaver- Age: 23 ERA: 1.15 7-0 40 K’s 11 Walks He looks like his brother Jeff, his pitching style is like Jeff, but his talent is owned all to him. The ONLY thing I am weary about is that he hasn’t had that many starts. Could this all be a fluke? Maybe. But maybe not. That is the only thing holding me back from putting him higher. Other than that, he has great speed, control, and composure (unlike Jeff Weaver). Jered comes in at 5. Ervin Santana- Age: 23 ERA: 4.26 11-4 97 K’s 46 BB This is a little unfair since I have never seen Santana pitch before. His stats are decent, but like I said, this gets an * since I have never seen Ervin pitch. |
