CHICAGO -- Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen is leaning toward Detroit Tigers veteran left-hander Kenny Rogers to start for the American League in next week's All-Star Game in Pittsburgh.

Rogers (11-3) got his fourth straight win Wednesday as the Tigers beat Oakland 10-4 in his final outing before the July 11 All-Star Game.

"I'm going to talk to Jim Leyland in the next couple of days and see how [Rogers] feels," Guillen said Wednesday. "I think Kenny has been throwing the ball really well and I think he's a guy in the right place to start because he pitched a couple of days early."

Guillen said earlier he'd prefer not to pick a starter who goes for his own team on Sunday, two days before the game at PNC Park. That list includes the White Sox's Jose Contreras, who is slated to pitch against Boston in the final game before the break.

Asked who will be his closer if he needs one, Guillen didn't hesitate.

"Mariano Rivera is on the team, Mariano Rivera is my closer," Guillen said. "It's not Bobby Jenks."

Jenks, who as a rookie last season helped the White Sox win the World Series with a 100 mph fastball, was named to the team Sunday as one of Guillen's selections.

"Mariano Rivera, he's a Hall of Famer. ... What this guy has done in baseball, he should be my closer," Guillen said.

Good I wanted to see Kenny Rogers start, and hopefully it'll be against Tom Glavine. Also Rivera will be the ASG closer if needed.

Glavine vs. Rogers sounds like a good match-up.

The NL needs to start Glavine it would be such a great All Star game if two 40 + year olds took the mound as starters.

I'm pretty sure he'll have Jenks close. I think a Webb-Santana matchup would be good.

If Jenks closes, I will lose any respect for Guillen that I haven't already lost. There's three better closers on the team.

Any player that purposely sucks to get traded shouldn't be awarded MVP, no matter what he does for his new team.

Glavine pitched today, so he dropped out, so we won't see the 40s matchup.
