What are your top three biggest surprises of the 2006 season so far here at the half way mark? These can be teams or players doing well or having suckfests, bad choices by players or managers, or whatever. Just anything that blew your mind and surprised the crap out of you. Mine: 3. Young pitcher Fransico Liriano of the Twins going 10-1 before the All-Star break. 2. Jose Lopez barely making the Mariners out of Spring Training and coming back to be an All-Star. Also, Joe Mauer's crazy hitting. 1. The Detroit Tigers going crazy with wins, and the Atlanta Braves not being able to buy a win for their lives. And I know I missed one or two... It's hard doing this late at night. So I reserve the right to be wrong here.

I really can't think that well now, it's 2:30 in the east and I've got to go to bed. I don't agree with Lopez but Mauer, the Tigers, and Lirianno have all been huge surprises. |

The thing you have to know about Lopez is that he almost didn't even make the team out of Spring Training. He almost lost his roster spot to the liked of Fernandeo Vina. I mean it was dang close. For him to come back and make the All-Star game is awesome. And this is more of an opinion thing, not a voting thing.

#1 Definitely the season the Tigers are having. #2 If you had told me the Yankees starting OF would be Melky, Bernie, and Kevin Thompson (or whoever decides to play RF for the day) - and that the Yanks would be holding steady in 2nd in the AL East with that combo - I wouldn't have believed it. #3 The Cincinnati Reds - I love how they're playing! |

It's only awesome for a Mariner fans, because a lot of us don't really care for Lopez. Anyways: 3. Braves in 4th place 13 games back. 2. Liriano 10-1 1.83 ERA 102 Strike outs in 88 innings. 1. Tigers having the best record in baseball/Joe Mauer hitting .383 |

For me, it has to be the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers are the best thing to happen to baseball this year. |

I like Lopez and all but I'm not going to say this is a big surprise because I knew before the season that he was a very talented guy. It's obvious he's better than Vina and things turned out the right way. |

Yeah that was a pretty dumb comment.... unlike most of you guys, I follow every team and player so I like to hear about anyone on any team. |

So the Marlins aren't a midseason suprise? Most people thought we'd lose 100 games and were in WC contention. I think they should be a suprise too. |
![]() Hanley Ramirez doesn't make errors--the ball is just afraid of him. Shadez was the first man to walk on the moon... with sunglasses on. In rookie ball, he drove a ball to deep centerfield, only to be informed he had been traded on his way to first base. So, he sprinted to the wall and robbed himself of a homerun. He can turn a man to stone just by looking at him without his shades. Was pointed at when Babe Ruth supposedly called his shot. The June 24th game between the Marlins and Yankees was not, in fact, called by rain as was previously reported. Hanley had plans. And by plans we mean a date. With a girl. A babe if you will.

Yep. I almost forgot about the Yankees. Having that many injuries and still competing... It's amazing. Makes me wonder what they would be like if the whole team was healthy. |
