NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - A close game between the American and National leagues helped not only the AL but Fox win in Tuesday night's All-Star Game.

Fox's three-hour telecast mowed down everything else in primetime, scoring the top ratings in viewership, households and the adults 18-49 demographic and leading the network to a primetime victory. And it wasn't even close, unlike the action on the field, where the AL trailed most of the game before a two-out, ninth-inning rally plated two runs. The Texas Rangers' Michael Young stroked a triple off San Diego Padres closer Trevor Hoffman, scoring the winning run.

Tuesday's All-Star Game from Pittsburgh's PNC Park averaged 14.4 million viewers and a 4.6 rating in adults 18-49, according to data released Wednesday by Nielsen Media Research.

Viewership was up 17% compared with last year's 12.3 million and was the most watched since 2002's infamous tie, when an average of 14.7 million tuned in. Nielsen estimated 31.2 million viewers saw at least part of the game, up 6% from last year.

The adults 18-49 rating was up 7% compared with last year's 4.3. It was also the highest-rated show on Fox since the "American Idol" finale in late May.

“At that pace the pitcher would have thrown around 500 pitches in four innings,” Kawamoto’s coach was quoted as saying. “There was a danger he could get injured.”

"You know what's amazing?" Piniella asked. "Umpires make mistakes sometimes, and when you question them, you end up paying the consequences."
