I hate the rule that says every team needs to have a selection...It's good for the team because if they have like all sucky players, they get an All-star selective. |

Brewers had Lee there already and Capuano was more deserving than Turnbow, I don't understand the selection either. |

Well, Turnbow's stuff looks unhitable. He throws his arm out there HARD and his fastball is mid 90's. Nobody knows who Brian Fuentes was, and many thought Matt Holiday was the only Rockie to deserve to go to the game, but Fuentes got a 1-2-3 inning. Colorado ain't all about Holiday, Todd Helton and Garret Atkins, you know! |

They needed an experienced closer in that spot. Jason Isrighausen declined, Chad Cordero sucks, Lidge sucks, Saito isn't really consistent and that's about it. |

Cordero doesn't "suck", 42 IP 34 hits and 18 runs allowed 15 walks and 43 SO's 5-4 record with 13 saves. And I wish Helton still had the ability to hit 40 HR's... |

Yea, but for a pitcher they are. |

18 runs allowed in 42 innings is not a good stat for a closer. |

Turnbow is a decent pitcher, he's just not closer material. Closers should have a really low WHIP, and an amazing K/BB ratio. Turnbow's WHIP is 1.42, and his K/BB ratio is 2.18. Those are decent for a reliever, but terrible for a closer. Look at the numbers for some upper-echelon lights out closers. Papelbon: 0.74 WHIP, 6.00 K/BB Ryan: 0.75 WHIP, 5.50 K/BB Rivera: 0.96 WHIP, 4.00 K/BB Nathan: 0.79 WHIP, 10.80 K/BB Jenks: 1.13 WHIP, 3.57 K/BB Rodriguez: 1.07 WHIP, 4.90 K/BB Street: 0.92 WHIP, 4.88 K/BB Putz: 0.76 WHIP, 8.43 K/BB Wagner: 1.13 WHIP, 3.06 K/BB Gordon: 1.07 WHIP, 4.36 K/BB Hoffman: 0.98 WHIP, 3.86 K/BB Average: 0.94 WHIP, 5.40 K/BB Just looks at the difference between Turnbow and the other closers' average WHIP. It's huge. Same with the K/BB ratio. Closers shouldn't allow base runners, they should be getting a majority of their outs by the way of the strikeout. Turnbow would be much better suited as a 7th or 8th inning guy. |

I wouldn't make arguements with reliever's ERA's, WHIP's, K/9's and everything. |

The other reason Redman was chosen (other than to represent KC) is because previously he had won 6 of his last 8 starts (2 NDs). Even I am baffled why Turnbow was chosen because he was not the only Brewer there with Carlos Lee and Chris Capuano. IMO, I would've chosen Wagner because even though he has less saves, he has a much lower ERA. |
