The 2006 season has provided many new young pitchers so far, making a name for themselves. Some such as Francisco Liriano, Justin Verlander, Scotty Kazmir, Joel Zumaya and other studs. What do you guys think about all of them, who do you like the most? I dont really follow the other teams pitchers besides the Giants, so I am going to share a few words about Matt Cain, and then someone else here can share something about their teams new pitcher. Cain has been very streaky in 2006, one start he is lights out and the next he has 110 pitches by the 5th inning. He has mostly had bad starts this season, going through the league for a 2nd time, as that usually happens to a pitcher. For example, earlier this year he had a 1 hitter against the Oakland Athletics, and when he faced them again in June, the A's hitters have obviously adjusted and squashed him. Thats what happens to a young pitcher. What are some things that have really impressed me about Matt Cain? Well, he has had good success keeping the ball in the park this year. In 106 IP, he has only given up 11 HR's, which is about avearge, but pretty good for him considering he is mainly a fly ball pitcher. I am also impressed how he handles himself when the inning gets off rough, if he gives up a base hit to start an inning, he does crap his pants like Jermey Accardo. Remember, Cain is only 20 years old! Also, I love the fact that he doesnt give up many hits. In 106IP, he has given up only 88 hits, thats awesome, especially for a rookie. Which brings me to what he needs to work on. Matt Cain has terrible control issues. You won't believe how many 3 ball counts he gets into. Despite the low number of hits given up, he has 52 walks! Thats a lot! Control is something that he just has to develop though, and he has plenty of time to do it. Tonight, Cain really showed what kind of pitcher he is when he has his control. Tonights statline: 8.2 IP, 7 Hits, 5 K's, 2 ER. Almost went the complete game, but had trouble getting the last out, besides that, had a shutout . And only one walk he gave up! Thats how good he is going to be when he really develops his control. And his K totals will rise aswell. So, thats what I have to say about Cain. Anyone else want to share something about their teams young stud? |

I like Liriano the best, because he is the best out of that bunch. He could even win the Cy Young this year. |

Liriano's gonna be great in the league but don't sleep on any of the young Marlins pitchers.

![]() Hanley Ramirez doesn't make errors--the ball is just afraid of him. Shadez was the first man to walk on the moon... with sunglasses on. In rookie ball, he drove a ball to deep centerfield, only to be informed he had been traded on his way to first base. So, he sprinted to the wall and robbed himself of a homerun. He can turn a man to stone just by looking at him without his shades. Was pointed at when Babe Ruth supposedly called his shot. The June 24th game between the Marlins and Yankees was not, in fact, called by rain as was previously reported. Hanley had plans. And by plans we mean a date. With a girl. A babe if you will.

Liriano and Papelbon have been amazing. It is going to be tough to choose the ROTY this year. They are also both good canidates for the Cy Young award this year. |

Papelbon and Liriano. But one question: Is Papelbon considered a rookie this year? I thought he pitched enough innings to be considered a rookie LAST year? |
