http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/...ex.jsp?c_id=nyy Go there click the Jeters catch video, and under the other game highlights, go to Reeses into-stands catch. Why isn't this as talked baout as Jeters play? |

Its not highly talked about, because for one, it was a foul ball. If it drops, its just a strike. Also, Reese slowed down, before he hit the wall. Jeter's play came at a crucial time of the game, and further replays at the time showed it was a fair ball, and had it fallen would have scored 2 runs. In essense, Reese's play was very good, but Jeter's play was on a stage in itself, thus this one get less attention. |

Its more of an on the spot, at the moment catches. Physically, there have been numerous catches that were great, but its the moment. It is a great catch, because it essentially saved a epic game. Much in the sense that a lot of people have hit homeruns, but its the walk-offs that are special, and in this game, it saved the game, thats why its special. |

Jeter wasn't running full speed, he probably was running just as fast a Reese did...Plus Reese had to make the catch while hitting into the wall so he could have easily dropped it. |

Watch the video again, Reese slowed down, right before he hit the wall, he went into a brace mode. Jeter was at full speed, thats why he ended up in the stands even though the ball was caught in fair territory. |

You think Jeter dove into the stands and cut his face on purpose? |

He actually knew he was going to hit the stands. He knew, there was no way he could stop himself in time, thats why he dove into the stands. But other than that, No. I don't think he said "hmmm, hey, I'll dive head first into some metal bars and seats and see where it gets me". |

Ay Curumba... Reeses' was nice, no doubting that...but lets look at the Elements here. Reeses, 5th inning, he makes the catch in Foul Territory, and his hip hits the gauder, which takes probably 90% of any blow there coulda been, then he falls, falls, into the stands hands first, so no pain. If he dropped it, oh well, its now a 1-1 count w/ 2 outs in the 5th... Jeters, Top 12th, Runners on 2nd and 3rd, tie game. He Runs and needs to stick out his hands to catch it, and then the gauder takes out his legs as he goes head first into a meatal stand. If he dropped it, the Sox score 2 runs, and probably win the game. Just becuase Pokey goes into the stands doesn't equal it to another in the stands catch. Thats like compairing Melkys robbed homer of Manny, to probably the greatest catch I've ever seen in Mathews Jr. robbed homer...just because both robbed a homer.. |

Yea he did slow down, my bad. But Jeter was not at full speed IMO, he could go a lot faster than that. |
