Baseball is RUINED every day by the Yankees and the Red Sox. Not directly, but because the national sports media reports everything about them, and leaves other teams behind. WE DON'T CARE. Maybe we were a little happy for the Red Sox in 2004 when they won it, but since then they've become arguably more obnoxious than Yankee fans. I'm not saying I dislike all of their fans but those from New York and Boston are often really bad. Then add to that the number of Sox fans who became fans in 2004 after they won the World Series. I have to believe that if it wasn't for ESPN and Fox's nightly lovefest for the Yanks and Sox, baseball would be so much more enjoyable. And everyone will say, "oh but it's the greatest rivalry of all-time!" No, it's not. It may have been before when some of the legendary greats of baseball were on the field and the whole Ruth thing was still a big story but now it's just a boring, overplayed, and often childish feud between fans. |

I just wrote in to SI that i haven't seen that many Yankee stuff in their magazines and threaten to cancel my membership, so i don't know what your talking about that the Yankees get all the coverage. I listen to the Fan and they talk about the mets more than the Yankees sometimes |

Oh PLEASE!!! First of all that's ridiculous that you wanted to cancel with SI for not enough Yankee coverage. Can't you watch TV? Baseball Tonight is basically Red Sox vs. Yankees tonight. Shit, ESPN as a whole is basically Red Sox vs. Yankees when they talk about baseball. Most of ESPN's baseball crew are writers who used to cover the Red Sox or Yankees. |

ESPN is all about the Red Sox, they can do no wrong. They sat there last night proclaiming Ortiz the best hitter after hitting a home-run off a little kid who was shitting pants while tossing balls to home plate. |

Before the Sox won the world series, Jeter was basically ESPN's posterboy. |

Blindsided, whether you like it or not, if it weren't for the Yankees and Red Sox, the popularity of MLB would probably rank somewhere between synchronized swimming and curling. Those two teams - and the recognizability of their players - are carrying MLB. And the ONLY reason to cancel SI - the reason I canceled my subscription - is because of that idiotic, serves-no-purpose and doesn't-have-shit-to-do-with-sports swimsuit issue. |

Ha, without the Yankees and the Sox, there would be no baseball The Red Sox made baseball big in the early Teens, and Babe Ruths Emergence made baseball huge, From the 1880s till the 1910s, baseball was only well known of the players like Cy Young and Tris Speaker and Ty Cobb(Look at that, 2/3 of them were Sox) And therefor, more people got into baseball. Then all the shit happened with Black Sox, and baseball could possibly have been ruined forever, but the Yankees came in and saved the day useing Babe Ruth as a mil ticket for the sport. It went on like that forever, and in the 1970s is when the Yankees/Red Sox publicity went big, during the time of the Bucky Dent situation, and then both teams fizzled out, and after the strike season(well, two years), the Yankees came out, and reclaimed that of what they were known for, and got people back into baseball. And after the 9-11 Tragedy, it was the(probably) Greatest, if not 2nd Greatest World Series ever, with the Yankees in it, that got peoples minds shifted away from the tragety. So, the only way to get away from Yankees Red Sox, honestly, is to not watch TV other than your teams games. Funny enough, we have the same reason we don't like watching ESPN, becuase of Yanks/Sox coverage, you because its too much, me becuase no one knows what their talking about. |

I do have to agree with Blindsided.... though I don't disagree with ESPN for showing more Red Sox/Yankees.... I mean I live in California, and I can think of 3 Red Sox and 3 Yankee fans that are my friends.... I've never met a Brewers fan.... ESPN would want to show the most popular teams, what do you think most people would want to watch, Yankees-Tigers or Orioles-Tigers? |
