I can think of 10 riveralys better then Red Sox vs Yankees.

Baeball is ruined by big market teams. And dont say this bullshit that ESPN only covers them because there good. Tell me how many times you see the Blue Jays or the Rangers. There good teams but virtually invisiable when it comes to ESPN.

They don't do it because of how good a team is, just the ratings the game will bring them.

I would say more than 75% of baseball fans care about the Yankees and or Red Sox

Not a chance. They do have a lot of fans. But do you honestly think that 75% of all baseball fans like the Yankees or Red Sox? How do other teams sell out stadiums then?

Well look at it like this most teams in the AL are trying to win something called a wild card. The Yankees and Red sox are usally in the race for it. So people want to see if their team gained any ground. Plus in most cities as in Cleveland a lot of citizens are Yankee or Red Sox fans. I live Cleveland and the city is 35 to 45% Yankees fans in all seriousiness.

I'll give you that..

But I also guarantee you that more than 75% of baseball fans (not casual fans who buy hats and think that Sammy Sosa is still playing) don't care about the Yankees/Red Sox enough to want to sit through John Kruk talking about whether or not Derek Jeter's jockstrap fit correctly or the gum on the bottom of David Ortiz' cleet for ten minutes every night..

It would be nice to hear about some other teams every once inawhile (without hearing the inevitable Yankees reference every 12 seconds during non-Yankees/Red Sox highlights.)

And also..I haven't seen a Yankees game being televised on ESPN in at least a year

There was two in a row on ESPN this week (or end of last week)

Recently I have begun to see what fans of other teams are talking about when they say that ESPN/Fox talk way too much about The Red Sox and Yankees and I do have to agree that it is annoying.

Who cares what everybody else thinks? If it makes the team better, that's all that is important.

75%..

Really?

76.894% of all statstics are made up on the spot.

Yep, exactly 75%.

C'mon, you know what I meant. 75% = 3/4. It's an estimate.

Rather than pointing out a typo of sorts, next time try to add your light to the glowing firmament of discussion...

I'm fairly sure I've made two other posts that do a pretty good job at that..

BTW, nice vocab.

Your players would only be paid like 500K a year and be forced into what the old football players are having to endure right now. Johnny Unitus is sitting in a nursing home right now and can't afford to pay his bills. The game wouldn't be more of a world wide sport as it is now. I even doubt the sport would of survived to present day.

Baseball would probably have died by now if it wasnt for New york Or Boston, so no its not better without them.

But I will agree with some with the statement that the Sox/Yanks Rivarly is the most annoying rivarly at the time, all day every day, all you hear about, its kind of disgusting.

The people on sport center put out what sells, i would do the same thing to make more money heck yes

To say they dont know what they talk about is niave, I hate it when people say that, are you on that show? they get paid to do that stuff, so they know what there talking about, u just dont think so because sometimes you dont agree and think ur always right, which is part of being a normal human being, when me and my girlfriend get in a fight, I always think im right, although ultimatelly I'll have to give up because she breaks out the crying routine and what not, thats another story though.

Bottom Line- without the Yanks and Sox, there wouldnt be baseball

haha, no, it's the greatest rivalry of all time.

No way. Ohio State/Michigan own this rivalry. You probably dont agree because your probably not big on college football, but OSU-Michigan is the biggest rivalry in all of sports.

I thought this thread was referring to the played-out rivalry..

I don't know that any sane person could actually say that baseball would be better off without the two clubs, themselves.

Baseball is RUINED every day by the Yankees and the Red Sox. Not directly, but because the national sports media reports everything about them, and leaves other teams behind. WE DON'T CARE. Maybe we were a little happy for the Red Sox in 2004 when they won it, but since then they've become arguably more obnoxious than Yankee fans. I'm not saying I dislike all of their fans but those from New York and Boston are often really bad. Then add to that the number of Sox fans who became fans in 2004 after they won the World Series. I have to believe that if it wasn't for ESPN and Fox's nightly lovefest for the Yanks and Sox, baseball would be so much more enjoyable. And everyone will say, "oh but it's the greatest rivalry of all-time!" No, it's not. It may have been before when some of the legendary greats of baseball were on the field and the whole Ruth thing was still a big story but now it's just a boring, overplayed, and often childish feud between fans.

I agree i never get to hear anything about my Twins or the astros who i also like.

Uhh..

I didn't really know I had to pick sides..

I just saw several posts talking about what the state of baseball would be without the clubs even existing, and your's happened to be the last one, so I quoted it..

I just thought the read was referencing the rivalry moreso than the teams not being there at all.

Blindsided, whether you like it or not, if it weren't for the Yankees and Red Sox, the popularity of MLB would probably rank somewhere between synchronized swimming and curling. Those two teams - and the recognizability of their players - are carrying MLB.

And the ONLY reason to cancel SI - the reason I canceled my subscription - is because of that idiotic, serves-no-purpose and doesn't-have-shit-to-do-with-sports swimsuit issue.

I would have to disagree with this one. I think the McGwire-Sosa HR Chase in '98 really helped baseball out and made it more popular or at least at the time.
"My God, what is this salty discharge? Is this crying? This is terrible -- I care!"

Calling the Cubs a baseball team is insulting to both the words baseball and team.
