yeah, great commercial.... It's hard to say who the greatest of all time was so hear me out on this: Greatest arm- clemente (people just stopped trying to get extra bases on him) Greatest average hitter- Ty Cobb Greatest power hitter- ruth and mantle (he hit a ball that would have gone 700 ft if it hadnt hit the top of yankee stadium) Greatest overall hitter- Ted Williams ("the best there ever was") Greatest legs  (speed)- Rickey Henderson and Lou Brock Greatest fielder- Cecil... nah, I can't name a greatest fielder because there isn't really an accurate way to measure it (if you read Moneyball then you'll know what I'm talking aboot) and I'm not gonna attempt to name the greatest pitcher of all time. |

I agree with you, but you could also make an argument for Koufax with his spectacular stretch in the 60s. |

Babe Ruth was a much better hitter overall than Ted Williams.. Babe has one of the highest BA's of all-time, and his OBP is almost unbelievable. I don't understand why people just assume that he was a crappy ass hitter that just hit home runs. |

Cobb could have been a power hitter, he wanted to be a slap singles hitter. One time he said he was going to hit for power for 3 games, so he changed his stance and hit five home runs in the three games, then went back to normal. |

Some stat comparison on Ruth/Williams.. Ruth Career: .342/.474/.690, 714 HR, 2217 RBI, 2175 R, 2873 H, 2062 BB, 123 SB 162 Game Averages*: 46 HR, 143 RBI, 141 R, 186 H, 133 BB, 8 SB * [size0]includes 1914-1918, when Ruth had over 140 AB's only once. Williams Career: .344/.482/.634, 521 HR, 1839 RBI, 1798 R, 2654 H, 2021 BB, 24 SB 162 Game Averages: 37 HR, 130 RBI, 127 R, 188 H, 143 BB, 2 SB --- Ruth is clearly the better hitter. Sure, Ted has him in a few stats, but Ruth can't lead everything. I see lists that are supposedly backed up with SABRmetrics - which are extremely difficult to accurately apply to the statistics of of players around before Bill James began to take stastistical analysis to a new level - that attempt to say that Cobb or Bonds is a better hitter than Ruth. Williams and Hornsby are also names thrown out there quite a bit. To me, it's almost like the Jordan situation in basketball. It's seems like saying he's not the best of all-time is the cool thing to do, but there's no doubt that he is. |

Don't forget that Ted Williams missed 5 years of his absolute prime to serve the American military. |

And Babe Ruth was a pitcher for four years.. At least Williams' time away from the game didn't hurt his 162 game averages. Ruth played in 2,503 games. Williams played in 2,292. Take Ruth's time as a pitcher into consideration and its fairly even. |
