I don't have the true religion. My thoughts and mind are always wondering searching for more. Why? bec ause I have not yet found the true religion that will guide me down a path of eternal happiness. No one can truly claim that they have the only true religion because no one has concrete enough evidence for it. Most religions are old and there are no signs of God that they actually exist so yea... no one has really any claim to a true religion.

Everyone has their own beleifs, and they can beleive what they want. Once they start trying to be egotistical and tell others that they are wrong, that's when arguments and fights begin. Over trivial reasons. it's just stupid.

Nath, your points are valid ones. Even wars have been fought over some pretty trivial differences in religious beliefs. And of course some not so trivial.

At the same time, the bible is the word of God, and within it are the guidelines to indicate whether or not you have the truth and God’s holy spirit. I would imagine that all would agree that there can only be one true religion. 1 Corinthians 14:33 says this : For God is [a God], not of disorder, but of peace.

If one believes the bible as they claim they do, then this statement has to be accepted.

So the conclusion must be that somewhere there is the true religion, one that brings peace, not disorder, amongst its adherents, its followers.

The bible gives us the insight as to which religion is the true one.

Here is just one example ..A person can judge their own religion according to the following principle, and ask themselves, does MY religion follow these guidelines and instructions?

One of the primary things is that the members of a religion have love amongst themselves. That is principled love. There a a few different definitions of love. The type that you would have for your spouse, the type you have for your children, the love that you have for God and Jesus, for a friend, and the type that you would have for another of the same faith etc.

The bible has many many examples of how love can and must be demonstrated to not only your own people but also your neighbor etc.

Jesus stated this and it is very important in determining whether your religion is the true one. “I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves.”—John 13:34, 35.

Note that he said :

“By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves.”. This is a absolute mark as to whether or not your religion may be the true one. It is essential.

Now examine your own religion. DO YOU HAVE LOVE AMONG YOURSELVES??

Does your religion kill others of the same religion in time of war?
If yours is the true religion, you will not. If you do kill others of your same religion or anyone else for that matter, your religion cannot be the true one.

Very simple statement and very simple fact.

A spade is a spade, so I must tell you that Jehovah’s Witnesses do live explicitly by this rule that Jesus stated. “You will know you are my disciples if you have love among yourselves”.

There are numerous other ways to tell if your religion is the true one. The true religion will practice ALL the requirements.

Meanwhile, I invite those who think they have the true religion to post on this thread and put your religion to the test.

Thanks all…

I am troubled by any religion that claims it is the only "true" one.

Being a person of faith - sticking to your principles, trusting in God's benevolence, treating others with the respect and dignity you wish to be treated with - is difficult enough for many of us. Our faith is a source of support, guidance and meaning in our lives. And to constantly be told that our faith is "wrong" is rude and disrespectful.

KY.. I understand your thinking completely. I have heard those types of statements often and when I think about it, I am sure most people would have a similar reaction when someone says that he or she has the true religion.

Just a bit of logic here. I think that if anyone really thinks about it, it has to be logical to think that there can only be one true religion. That is, the one that would be acceptable to God.

Personally, I would not want to believe in a God who has a large number of standards. That is, if many religions were acceptable, with all the conglomeration of confusion that exists in and between these religions and yet be acceptable to God, then one could not put any faith in a God who would accept all these differing things.

For instance, our religion will not kill each other. All other religions that I know of will kill each other.
Many believe in a trinity, three God's rolled into one, some believe in the immortality of the soul, eternal hell fire torment, all good people go to heaven when they die etc.

But at the same time, many of those who believe these things also claim that, oh yes, I believe the bible.

Well, the bible that they say they believe says this¡ True Christians do not kill each other.
The bible plainly shows that there is one Almighty God,
(Psalm 83:18 .. from the King James, "That men may know, that thou whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most high over all the earth), Jesus is His son, and holy spirit is His active force that he uses to send forth and accomplish His will.

The bible says that the soul dies and knows nothing.
The bible says there is no such thing as a burning fire torment in hell for evildoers.
The bible says that only a very few people will go to heaven and the majority, a huge great crowd, will live on the earth forever.

These are just a few examples.

Now, if all those different beliefs are acceptable to God, He would be a contradictory God, you would not be able to put any trust in Him, a God of confusion. The bible very plainly shows that He is NOT that type of God and He has strict standards that cannot be compromised,
A person would be putting their own will on their beliefs and ignoring what God's will is and that is not acceptable to him. Making up your own rules for instance and ignoring God's.

Jesus himself said this at John 5:30 "because I seek, not my own will, but the will of him that sent me". (Again, does this sound like a trinity God, equal in power etc?)

Did Jesus believe that he had the only true religion? The apostles and other disciples? Of course, and they rankled many feathers amongst the religious leaders of their day, to the point that these ones had him killed, as well as the apostles. JW's are hated by many, including the clergy of today for teaching the things that Jesus taught.

So it is not unfair to say that there is only one true religion. There was only one true one in Jesus time, and there is only one true one today. It is imperative for one's eternal salvation to find out what it is.

I apologize for this being long but I want to add an example or two.

Part 1
Do All Religions Teach the Truth?

ALMOST everyone in Africa agrees that it is important to worship God. But, there is little agreement about how to worship him. Some worship at a mosque, and others go to a traditional shrine. Still others attend a church. But it would be wrong to think that there are only three religions in Africa. Among Muslims, there are differing laws and beliefs. Traditional religion varies widely from place to place. Among the professed Christian churches, there is even greater disunity. Apart from the main ones, there are thousands of independent churches throughout Africa.

Our Religion Must Be Based on Truth

Why do people worship as they do? Many people accept the religion of their parents. Events of long ago also influence the religion people practice today. The book The Africans A Triple Heritage says: "Islam spread north of the Sahara through conquest, . . . Christianity spread south of the Sahara by the same means. If north of the Sahara Islam spread by the sword, south of the Sahara Christianity spread by the gun. Still, most of us believe that our religion is pleasing to God. But a religion is not correct just because our parents practice it or because some foreign power imposed it on our ancestors.

While all religions claim to offer reliable guidance about serving God, their ideas differ. They teach many different things about who God is and what he expects of us. Think about this: Suppose you got a job with a big company. On the first day of work, you learn that the boss is away on leave. So you ask three workers what you should do. The first worker says that the boss wants you to sweep the floor. The second says that you should paint the building. The third tells you to distribute the mail.

Next, you ask the workers about the boss. The first says that the boss is tall, young, and harsh. The second says that he is short, old, and kind. The third tells you that the boss is not a man at all. The boss is a woman. Likely, you conclude that the three workers are not all telling the truth. If you want to keep your new job, you will probably do some checking to find out who the boss really is and what he or she wants you to do.

It is the same with religion. Because there are so many ideas about who God is and what he requires of us, we need to make sure that our way of worship is in harmony with the truth. But how can we learn the truth about God?

How Can You Learn the Truth About God?

HOW can we come to know God? Is it necessary to examine all the teachings of the many religions? That would be impossible. Even if we could do that, how would we know which teaching is correct?

Surely, in view of all the different ideas about God, we need a way to know what is true, a standard that people can agree on. To illustrate: Suppose that there is an argument at the market about the length of a piece of cloth. The seller says the cloth is three yards [3 m], but the buyer thinks it is less than that. How can the matter be resolved? By measuring the cloth with a yardstick.

Is there a yardstick, a standard, for deciding religious matters? Yes, it is the Bible. God had the Bible written so that people everywhere could learn the truth about him. Billions of copies have been printed. It has been translated, in whole or in part, into over 2,100 languages. Just about everybody can read the truth about God in his or her own language.

The Bible is a precious gift from God. It explains things that we could otherwise never know. It tells about those who live in the spirit realm. It reveals God's thoughts, his personality, and his purpose. It tells of his dealings with people over thousands of years. It talks of things that will happen in the future. And it shows how we can find the road to everlasting life.

Why You Can Believe the Bible

There are many reasons why we can believe that the Bible really is the Word of God. One reason is that the Bible is in harmony with science. In ancient times people throughout the world thought that the earth rested on something. In West Africa, for example, people once believed that the earth was supported by a coiled snake, with 3,500 coils above the earth and 3,500 coils below. Yet, in harmony with science, a Bible writer wrote over 3,500 years ago that God is "hanging the earth upon nothing". Job 26:7.

The greatest proof that the Bible really is from God is its perfect record in foretelling the future. Unlike human oracles, God truly knows the future; everything he says always comes true.

Hundreds of Bible prophecies were fulfilled in ancient times. For example, 700 years in advance, the Bible accurately said that Jesus was to be born in the town of Bethlehem, and that is what happened. (Micah 5:2; Matthew 2:3-9)

In addition to many other prophecies about Jesus, the Bible also foretold that he would be born of a virgin and would eventually be betrayed for 30 pieces of silver. Those prophecies also came true. Surely no human could have foretold those things! Isaiah 7:14; Zechariah 11:12, 13; Matthew 1:22, 23; 27:3-5.

Many Bible prophecies are being fulfilled in our time. Here are a few of them:

"Nation will rise against nation [in warfare], and kingdom against kingdom; and there will be great earthquakes, and in one place after another pestilences and food shortages". Luke 21:10, 11.

"There would be an "increasing of lawlessness". Matthew 24:12.

"In the last days . . . men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, . . . disobedient to parents, . . . without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, . . . puffed up with pride, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God". 2 Timothy 3:1-5.

Do you not agree that these things are happening now?

The truthfulness and accuracy of Bible prophecy show that the Bible is no ordinary book. It is the inspired Word of God! 2 Timothy 3:16.

Has the Bible Been Changed?

Suppose that you were the owner of a factory and that you posted a list of rules for your workers. If some enemy changed what you had written, what would you do? Would you not correct what had been changed? In the same way, God does not allow people to change the truth of his Word, the Bible.

Those who have tried to change the teachings of God's Word have not succeeded. When we compare the Bible that we have today with ancient copies of the Bible, they are the same. This shows that the Bible has not been changed over the years.

These excerpts were pasted from a brochure published by JW's in 2002.

Can anyone see the sense of what has been said?

ps: I just edited this as it was a mess with all those quotation marks and such. It seems these threads dont take kindly to some types of punctuation. Sorry... T.O.

You find it easier to believe the whole universe was an accident over it being created by an all powerful God?

KY.. Just a quick note to emphasize the fact that there is only ONE true religion.

How many "true" religions were there in Jesus day?

One... And that holds true to our time, and that one true religion would be the one that teaches what Jesus and his apostles taught.

ps: I hope this note gets posted corectly. I dont see the same layout on here as I have done earlier. Just my dopeyness I imagine...

I presume your post was done with tongue in cheek as it doesnt make sense that Judaism is the true religion just because you are a Jew, any more than my being English would make the Anglican church the true religion.

Zack.. That is the point exactly. One of the things that Jesus did was to do away with the Jewish way along with all the things like animal sacrfices etc that the Jewish nation practised.

Jesus established the Christian church, hence the true religion in Jesus day was the religion that he instituted.

Is that something like being a communist because you live in a communist country, and then if you move to a Muslim country, you must now be a Muslim?

And if you dont believe that God made all this how can you possibly be a Catholic who do believe that God made all this?
