T-O, may I assume from this post that you are a Jehovah's Witness?

Jayhawk

Yes

Got it, thanks.

At any rate of course they ask questions. The idea is to find out your viewpoint and stir your interest perhaps.

And no, nobody “flee’s” if you respond in any way favorably. If the persons attitude at the door, or any where else, is not very favorable, then it is best to take your leave.
Even though it does irritate some people when we are there, that is not our intention at all and an argument serves no purpose.

This is exactly my experience with Jehovah's Witnesses.

While I share almost no religious beliefs with Jehovah's Witnesses, I find it difficult to criticize individuals who care so much to help the world and to save others' immortal souls. A cynic might analyze the structure of the religious group as an organization and consider the door-to-door work as proselytizing as a means of acquiring others' resources and ensuring the continued growth of the organization. I personally discount that as a motive of Jehovah's Witnesses whom I have met. They encourage discussion of faith, but I perceive, rightly or wrongly, that they come to save souls, not to cause strife or trouble.

Too few remember that Hitler's Nazis considered Jehovah's Witnesses to be on a par with Jews and homosexuals, and that they were targeted for eradication in the Holocaust. IMO, any religion that poses a threat to Nazism through its existence is probably a good thing.

That doesn't mean that I'm a likely convert--rather, I would prefer to celebrate Jehovah's Witnesses good work from the outside, pointing out the good that has been done by so many religions in removing mankind from savagery, including the work of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Jayhawk…

Interesting comments.

You are quite correct on a number of points. The part about Nazi Germany is interesting because most people we call on do not know this. And we do not make a point of it unless the subject comes up.

We refused to join Hitlers armies and kill other people. And think of this. IF our brothers in Germany had joined the army and supported Hitler, they would have killed many of their own brothers in other countries where Hitler led his hordes. In contrast of course to other religions who did collaborate with Hitler and did just that. Killed their fellow brothers and sisters in another country.

The same held true for the allied side. We did not join the fighting on this side either for the same reason, which basically is that we support and show our allegiance only to God’s kingdom government under the direction of Christ since it was formed in 1914.

We are sincerely trying to accomplish what Jesus said his people would be doing in the last days of this system.

We are not very popular for taking this stand, as many will criticize us for not supporting the war effort on either side.
But something to think about for all. IF you lost a family member or good friend in any war, always remember that it definitely was not a Jehovah’s Witness that did the killing.

How could we kill anyone, never mind our own brothers and sisters? If anyone does not know the bibles instruction on killing, at least they should recall at least one verse that states “Thou shalt not kill”. From the King James.

Here is a bit of an experience from our families history for the readers of this post.

When I was about 10 (that’s a few years ago by the way !!! ) WW2 was raging and my oldest brother joined the Canadian air force. None of our family were yet JW’s. Had never even heard of them. Actually at that time there were just a few more than a hundred thousand world wide.

We were attending the Christian Missionary Alliance church. The preachers, like all other religions, were urging the young men to join up and giving them their blessings by means of prayers etc. And of course doing exactly the same thing on the other side.

My brother flew missions over Germany, dropping bombs on cities. There can be no doubt that he dropped bombs on people of his own faith as well as others.

My parents came into contact with the truth from God’s word about 1942-43. It wasn’t long before they recognized it for what it was after only a few visits from JW’s at that time. They remained faithful kingdom proclaimers until their deaths in 1978/79.

My brother was killed in late 1944 on his 26th mission. He was quite appalled that his dad and mom had become JW’s. He was the assistant pastor in our church at home and couldn’t understand how anyone could be so gullible.

Well enough of that.

Thanks for your post. Not just because its somewhat sympathetic, but because it’s your viewpoint as you see it.

Jesus built one Church. He also said to follow Him. If you are not in His Church, you aren't following very well.
