an American/Canadian/British (or any other nationality I may have left out)? Best thing about being an American: Freedom to voice your opinion (within reason) without fear of government persecution. I can wear a t-shirt that says "All Men Are Brainless Himbos" and not be arrested for it! ![]() Worst thing about being an American: The frequent condescension and hypocrisy Americans tend to show toward others. Whether we like it or not, it is One World - not the U.S. and the rest of them. |

Hi there KY.. I presume that includes freedom to practise ones religious beliefs? How long has the Excited States of America had these freedoms? Canada didnt actually have a charter of rights as its called till the 60's somewhere as I recall. Certainly didnt have it in the fifties. |

Best thing about living in Canada: seen around the world, most prodominantely in Holland and in France (because we liberated them from Nazis), as friends and and all around good peacekeeping country. Worst thing about living in Canada: some laws are pretty bad. For example, seal hunting is still legal. |

There was only a war because you assholes waned to go back into isolation after WWI. If only you had joined the League of Nations, Hitler would've not taken gambles on expansion. |

that's kind of like canceling out eachother, in a way. LIberals are generally free thinkers and open to everything, which is just exemplifactation of the freedom rights. But I like the fact that there is the right to practice any form of religion you choose, the fact we can seak out against the government and anything you dislike, and the way you can make it big with a small business using capitalism or whatever. Theres a lot of things i dislike about this country. The education system is simply a piece of shit. First, the federal government interference in education with the 'no child left behind act' has ruined schools. Its alling for 100% passing rates on tests by 2012, and schools that decrease in passing rates need to offer tutoring, saturday school, and take away the extra curriculars. Students dont learn by testing, that doesnt do anything but make you memorize a bunch of facts. Also the teachers that implement stereotypes against poor students, black students, hispanic students, it all isnt right. Which leads to the fact that america in fact is not a land of equal oppurtunity, plain and simple. While yes, you can be a homeless kid in a bad family life situaton and you can be a football player, But yu can also be a black person and not have fair oppurtunities at getting into a college or a high paing job other than sports. This discrimination and racism just isn't right and it won't go away, and its a sad fact. Finally, the fact that half of our government officials are inept or lying and scandelous thieves. They have no idea how to spend money. The medicare system in this country is nothing, canada clearly owns it. But other than that, we spend billions of dollars on a war in a foreign country where we have no more business there, maybe the first year was authorized but other than that nothing. We spent 5 million dollars investing in interactive playgrounds for kids across the country, when we could be spending it on medicare or education or any of the other problems we have. poor spending is plagueing us. Also inflation is getting to be a problem because we import way more than we export and eventually a dollar could be pretty pointless, something like the peso. im done ranting about america for now.. I could go on though. |
