Merry Christmas? I'm offended. I promote "Happy Holidays"

But seriously, I think the Catholic Newspaper was accurate in saying that Jehovah Witnesses (along with Mormons) are not Christians.

MO.. Did they give any reason why they said that?

I think its been pretty obvious on here lately that JW's are excellent Christians, but why did they say that?

Thanks

For a group to be considered Christian, they need at least a Trinitarian belief (that is, what we believe about the Trinity), and neither of these groups have that.

The Jehovah Witnesses have changed the Bible so much, adding and subtracting words, that it can no longer be called Gods Word.

Jesus built one Church. He also said to follow Him. If you are not in His Church, you aren't following very well.

they add, part of being a Christian is accepting that Jesus is God. Jehovah Witnesses do not accept this truth.

Says who? To break down the root of the word "Christian" it only means one who follows Christ's teachings. Christ, if I am correct on this, taught about a father, but never about a Trinity. It was Christ's followers who taught about the Trinity.

And the Catholics haven't? Let's get real here!

The Catholic Church invented the idea of hell. Read http://gospelthemes.com/hell.htm

Again, says who? Jesus never taught anything about the Trinity, only his followers did. And Jehovah's Witnesses, as far as I can tell, seem more concerned with Christ's actual teachings, not those of his followers.

Everything is true except the last part.

Jesus "followers" did not teach the trinity. This came about over a period of time when the great apostasy would set into the Christian faith. The apostasy that Jesus warned would happen after he passed off the scene, and even began to creep into the real Christian faith while some of the apostles were yet alive.

But the real apostasy got a foothold long after Jesus and the apostles were gone. Thus things like Trinity, hell fire torment, immortal soul, heavenly life for all "good" people, Peter being the first pope etc, all these false teachings that are not biblical came about later on.

But a good post nevertheless Caulfield.
