Democrats:

Obama 38%
Edwards 30%
Clinton 29%
Richardson 2%
Biden 1%
Dodd, Gravel, Kucinich and Uncommitted received 0%

Republicans:

Huckabee 34%
Romney 25%
Thompson 13%
McCain 13%
Paul 10%
Giuliani 4%
Hunter 1%

Keep in mind, not all candidates campaigned in Iowa (like Giuliani). Also, following the caucuses, Democrats Dodd and Biden dropped out of the race.

Next stop: the New Hampshire Primary, Tuesday, Jan. 8.

In politics, if you want anything said, ask a man; if you want anything done, ask a woman. - Margaret Thatcher

I never married because there was no need. I have three pets at home which answer the same purpose as a husband. I have a dog that growls every morning, a parrot that swears all afternoon, and a cat that comes home late at night - Marie Corelli (19th century author)

There is little that I fear more than a Huckabee vs. Obama election in November.

Iceland is looking like a good place to move.

If Obama wins New Hampshire, its done. He'll take the election.
He's the one Democrat I'd vote for. Anything to keep Hillanazi out of office

Agreed on that, though I still would never vote for him. Better than Hillary, but not by a whole lot.

I'm thinking Huckabee's celebration will be short-lived. I doubt he gets in the top 4 in NH. Only the Midwest and South could save him, and that means he'll have to survive Wyoming, New Hampshire, Michigan, and Nevada to get to South Carolina. Then if he manages to stay in, he has to get through Florida and Maine to make it to Super-Mega-Ultra-Uber-Giga-Tuesday. Fortunately, I don't see it happening.

I'm not sure about Huckabee. I think Giuliani's estimated success is overexaggerated. I personally feel that Romney will be the Republican Nomination, but I think Huckabee has enough popularity (for whatever reason) to take it.

Giuliani is definitely being overestimated. He only has good showings, as far as I can tell, in NY, NJ, FL, and a handful of others where he's third. Giuliani will be this year's Howard Dean: all talk, no numbers. He's gotten complacent, as he was the big time front-runner two years ago. Just like Dean was through all of 2003.

Like I said, Huckabee's biggest test will be the next month or so going into My Big Fat Greek Tuesday (MBFGT), or whatever the hell they're calling the thing this year. With his lower funding and going through states that will be tough for him, I'm not sure he'll be able to withstand the money and support barrage we'll see given to Romney, Paul, McCain, and even Giuliani.

How long until Hunter and Thompson drop out? Rumor has it Thompson is set to urge his followers to support John McCain, possibly even before MBFGT.

Thats true about Giuliani. From what I've heard, Ron Paul will drop out after Super Tuesday (Feb. 5th). I guess he feels after he gets defeated pretty badly in the big states, he will concede. I like him a lot, too.

I found this commentary on another forum. I thought it was pretty funny and poignant.

Sorry folks there is no shadowy conspiracy here. Republicans in Iowa just think the TV evangelist and faith healer, Mike Huckabee, would make a good president; They like farm subsidies (welfare for corporate farmers); They want their leader to smite the islamofascists with a giant glowing nuclear crucifix (praise the lord!).

LOL, great quote there.

Paul is really kind of a tough one to gauge. He has the funding to go deep into this, but at the same time, how much support will he get to go along with the funding? I think he can make it to about March 4, sort of a mini-Tuesday with OH, RI, TX, and VT on the ballot. If he isn't a top 3 finisher in at least 2/3 of the states by then, he's out.

(Iowa is dark yellow, NH is bright green)

Iowa isn't that great of a borometer... HW finished ahead of Regan in 80.... crazy Pat Robertson then finished ahead of HW in 88. Bill Clinton got a little over 2% here...

This is for sure a one and done for Huck.

I stand by my prediction that Ron will win NH. Although I thought he'd be 3rd in Iowa...

Huckabee reminds me of Bush, which frightens me. He tries to come off as the average joe and get votes on values and religious beliefs, reminds me a lot of Bush.

He also has Chuck Norris endorsing him who also happened to endorse Bush.

I believe the man who won Iowa in Clinton's years was actually FROM Iowa. The name will come to me....

NATH.. Maybe you should again ask your previous question.

Remember the one that you never actually got ANY replies from "Christian" people.??

"Jesus never interferred with politics, why do you?"

If Jesus were on earth today, what part would he have in all of this ??

Something that scares me about someone like huckabee that is voted on more for values than politics is just that, I mean if something happens, he'll act in accordance more with religious beliefs than he will on what is good for the nation. I'm more concerned with America than I am with what you think will happen when you die.
