I think there are a ton of players. Placido Polanco was drafted in round 19 or something like that....and a ton of pitchers develop late after being drafted high. |

Piazza was in the 62nd round. The draft doesn't even have 62 rounds anymore. In fact, he was only drafted as a favor by Lasorda, his godfather. Bill Mueller: 15th round Marvin Benard: 50th round Albert Pujols: 13th round Nolan Ryan: 10th Don Mattingly (19th) Jeff Kent (20th) Ryne Sandberg (20th) John Smoltz (22nd) Roy Oswalt (23rd) Dusty Baker (26th) Robb Nen (32nd) Mark Buehrle (37th) Keith Hernandez (42nd) Raul Ibanez (36th) Dennis Tankersley (38th) Brad Ausmus (48th) Chad Curtis (45th) Julio Lugo (43rd) Jeff Conine (58th) Orlando Hudson (43rd) Justin Speier (55th) Gabe Kapler (57th) Travis Phelps pitched in 79 games with Milwaukee and Tampa Bay between 2001 and 2004. He was an 89th round pick. |
