LOL Andy Laroche moves. Finally haha

What I take away from this is a good trade for Pittsburgh. Especially better than the Brignac and Neimann garbage I heard earlier. They get a good 3B and this shows they have given up on Walker. I like Brandon Moss and he can be a quality OF with McLouth, and soon McCutchen for their future OF. Hansen could pan out to be a good RP.

Dodgers get Manny and its a good acquisation, but Manny's poor range will be magnified in Dodger Stadium.

Red Sox made out well to get Bay.

Red Sox are fucking stupid for this, They really didn't upgrade THAT much in this deal, and they gave up specs. They just felt like they needed to trade him because of his personallity. I don't agree with that.

Jason Bay lucked out tho.

AQctually Bay's numbers are the same as Manny's, plus Bay is younger. I don't think we lost much in the trade, if anything.

It's not about Bay equalling Manny. You guys gave up stuff additionally. You guys upgraded a little bit, but not enough to warrant trading cash and specs along with it.

Moss has no place on our team and Hansen had his opportunity here and did nothing really...they were expendable to get a deal done.

a post from another forum that I think addresses the situation pretty fairly.

Quote:

Imagine next year at this time: Manny is gone, Moss is a .750 OPS OF, and Hansen is MAYBE a competent MR. If a .900 OPS OF like Bay was available for Moss and Hansen, wouldn't you make that deal? And that's only for a two month rental, we get Bay for another entire year.

I like the deal. Besides the fact that Manny is no longer in Boston, but they got back a great player in Jason Bay. He's having a great bounce back year and should be a good bat in the Boston Line-up

umm, could you please rephrase that?

Manny gives the Dodgers the bat they have needed the past couple of seasons. He should make them the favorites to win the West.

Are you guys serious. The Red Sox and Pirates are the winners in this one. The Pirate continue to build a strong foundation for their future and the Sox get a power hitting outfielder for cheap to replace Ramirez's production. The Dodgers get a problem child, horrible defending, and highly paid aging Ramirez.

I don't see how you can anyone can say that the Dodgers are the winners and the Pirates aren't.

lmfao!

efm, Bay is good but nowhere near Ramirez. The Pirates basically got 4 prospects for trading Bay alone. The Redsox traded Ramirez, Moss, Hansen, and 7 mil for Bay in essence.

impact wise. pitchers are more afraid of Ramirez than Bay. Manny is one of the most intimidating hitters in the game. Bay isn't.

Ahh the cliche ESPN argument. I really don't care if Bay is intimidating or not if he's putting up those kind of numbers. In fact, I'd rather him not be intimidating so he can see better pitches to hit.

You'd also have to think that the trade is taking away at bats for Ortiz which also plays an impact. An Ortiz/Manny duo is much more scary than an Ortiz/Bay duo. Bay isn't terrible, I'm not saying he's one of the worst nor am I saying he's mediocre. He's a good ball player but the fact that him taking away at bats from Ortiz is something.

...

How does he take at bats away from Ortiz? They're not going to be intentionally walking Ortiz with Bay hitting behind him.

Manny Ramirez moves to a pitchers park...Jason Bay moves to a HR suppressing Hitters park, with zero OF foul ground. I think it is pretty safe to say Bay has a great chance of putting up better numbers than Ramirez.

And no one has talked about this yet, but what awkward phone call for Theo to make to Manny, once he was traded.

Ok I just typed a huge post and accidentally deleted it so I'll resummarize quickly.

Manny is going to outperform Bay on offense for the rest of 2008 and 2009, and by a fair margin. Manny sleep walked to a .900 OPS this year, that's a career year for Bay.

Bay is going from a pitchers park to a hitters park, true, but the quality of pitchers in the AL East are exponentially better than the quality of pitchers in the NL Central. There's going to be an ugly adjustment period, kind of like what JD Drew went through all of last year.
