The daddy bat comes out from the rafters.

He squeaks with relief as Sketch informs him about his family.

In response to Sketch's statement he points to the sky with his wing-claw, and then puts his wing over his eyes, before pointing to his strawberry body. He looks to Sketch hopefully to see if the pony understands.

"...No, I'm afraid I don't understand. I never was the best at charades..." Sketch says, trying to think.

"I'm going to take a guess at part of it. Sky Shade?" Sketch guesses.

The daddy bat conveys a 'close enough' look with a shrug and a squeak.

Night Berry was what he was going for (point at sky for dusk, eyes closed to convey darkness, point at his strawberry body for berry) but there's no way Sketch can know that...

The bat withdraws a small empty sack and points to the sky, before waving a claw towards the Apple Trees over the river.

"I am completely lost here. Are we still on your name? I know I didn't get it right..." Sketch mumbles the last part.

"How about 20 questions to help out? I know that the first part of the name involves the sky... wait, is part of your name a time of day?" Sketch asks, not sure if that's what the fruit bat was talking about.

I'm very tempted to somehow get Sketch to learn Night Berry's name quickly.

'Sky Shade' shakes his head in a forget about it sort of manner as Sketch repeats his query about the bat's name.

The bat goes on to rub his strawberry tummy and look sad, and then does chomping motions - miming a hungry daddy fruit bat who needs to go and find apples for his family.

As if on cue a number of high pitched squeaks come from the rafters. It seems that the bats have quite a sizeable family up there.

There may be some other way of finding out the bat's name. Perhaps another pony could interpret for Sketch?

"Well, it wouldn't be right not calling you by your correct name, but I'll drop the subject. I can probably find somepony who can interpret... maybe Fluttershy... anyways, I shouldn't keep you from going out to get food. I'm going to bed early. Good night!" Sketch says in a positive tone.

The busy fruit-bat waves a wing gratefully to Sketch and flaps off into the dusk.

Sketch finds his way to his pony bed and sleeps a fitful sleep from which he soon wakes.

As Sketch blinks his eyes open to face the new day he feels Celestia's sun beam down upon his orange snout. His pony ears hear country sounds of cockerels crowing and the nearby river gurgling.

Sketch takes a deep breath, and yawns to remove any sleepiness remaining.

"I wonder what time it is..." Sketch asks himself, looking for where he put his clock.

Sketch sees that the time is 6:30. A good honest earth pony sort of time to be up.

The sound of birdsong comes from outside. Sketch's pony nostrils are met with the mouth-watering taste of fresh, dewy grass and a fruity apply smell from the neighboring orchard.

"Well, there's nothing like starting the day with a nice breakfast, then!" Sketch exclaims, getting out of his bed and, making sure his saddlebags were on, stepping outside.

"Probably should've bought some groceries instead of painting, though..." Sketch mentally berated himself for neglecting something as simple as future meals.

Sketch enters his house, and, deciding to finish yesterday's projects, pulls out the easel.

"Let's see what I can do here..."

Sketch had largely captured the outline of the majestic scene of the Apple Orchard but had yet to fill in details. The morning sun shows the orchard in a slightly different light to the noon sun. The more subtle light emphasises the depth of the orchard, making it seem more substantial and bringing out the slight differences in green shades.

"Yes, a sunrise would definitely bring out the life in this picture." Sketch says, ready to resume work on his painting.

Sketch paints happily away adding a sunrise and filling in all the little details that make a picture come to life.

Time is marked by the lazy flappings of pegasi through the still, morning air. The school run is marked by a couple of earth pony foals trotting from the Sweet Apple Acres farm and past Sketch's cottage. One of the foals talks animatedly about cutie marks in a country-pony accent.

Otherwise the cottage is removed from the bustle of Ponyville.

Soon the noon-day sun is out and Sketch has almost finished his piece. His horn is warm from constantly holding the paint-brush and he feels a little drained from the sustained concentration.

Sketch places the brush down. "Sometimes I forget how tiring it is to hold a paint brush up for this long.I should take a small break. Actually, I could probably visit Fluttershy now. Well, if she doesn't mind. I'd hate to bother anyone, really." Sketch says to himself.

Not a colt to deviate from the purpose of naming his bat, Sketch packs up his easel and considers setting off for Fluttershy's cottage.

Before he decides to go there is a nagging feeling that the mare was very shy the last time they met and it might be easier for her if he could find a way to meet her without making her feel awkward. Maybe one of her friends would accompany him? Or a townspony? Or was he being over-sensitive as a Canterlotian in a more rough and ready setting and it'd be ok to just visit now?

Well, anyway Sketch better make his decision soon or he'll miss his lunch worrying :P

"She was very shy... maybe I should find one of her friends first. She might feel more comfortable that way." Sketch decides. Then, noting the time, adds: "It's getting close to lunch, anyways. I definitely should not go to anypony's house on an empty stomach."

Sketch opts to satisfy his pony stomach first :3

He still has some berries, or he could trot back into Ponyville for some good earth pony vittles.

"I think I should buy a carrot or two to go with these berries." Sketch thinks, deciding to head back to the Marketplace.
