A small two up two down cottage as far away from Ponyville, and as close to the Apples' orchard and the river as possible to be while still inside the boundary. A small family of deer-folk have just moved in, its previous occupant, also a non-pony seeking seclusion, moved out after only a short stay and was only too glad to sell the little place to the newcomers at a knock-down price.

There are few neighbours to the isolated, detached, cottage. A slightly larger, also detached, cottage lies about 25 metres away towards Ponyville (Sketch's residence). This other cottage also bears signs of neglect - few ponies wanting to live so far out of the main village, and in such small accommodation.

+++++

The last few days of grief and upheaval had drained Chuck and his family physically and psychologically but also materially. For this reason it was particularly fortunate that the unplanned residence had worked out so well and Chuck has every reason to be thankful that the residence had recently been posted in the Townhall as available, and at a price a great deal lower than the many larger, or more central, cottages. The first days after his great journey they were too exhausted to do much in the way of shopping for anything other than bare essentials, not even getting to know anypony or even set up a job. However, this day had been different. Chuck felt a little lighter today, a little more ready for the world. He has already trotted into town to the market...

+++++

The noonday sun shines down on Chuck's small, but attractive, cottage. He's just been to the town market for the first proper 'shop' for his new house. He trots up the worn dirt track through the cottage's vegetable garden to his front door (the neglected patches have overgrown vegetables and untamed weeds in them). He approaches the arched door. To Chuck's mind the pony cottage seems a little more flimsy, but also little more ornamented due to his upbringing in the relatively more rural deerlands. It sports exposed beams and other features of workponyship, and a slightly higher ceiling than his home. On the other hoof, the cottage is much smaller than what his more established father could afford.

It might have been a few years now, but it all had finally caught up to them; if they were going to move on, they were gonna have to move away entirely and just start a new life in somewhere completely new.

Whilst put, Chuck decided to do some local investments and place a little bit of charm out and about town as he tried to know the stallions and mares dotted around Ponyville Market. What a bizarre occurrence it was for him to see Pegasus and Unicorns quite so frequently. Where he was from, there wasn't much in the way of diversity, most of his neighbours and friends were deer like himself, with maybe an Earth pony or two loving around some places.

He pushed open the door with his antlers and had to turn his head slightly to fit into the door since if wasn't quite as wide as the doors back home and he greeted his mother with a small nod and a "Hello Mam" whilst his sister, Maple enthusiastically ran around him, excited that her brother had returned and a cheesy grin sported across his face as he picked her up with the scruff of her neck gently, lifting her onto a table with a circular top.

"Heya kiddo, how're ya dain' this morning? I was already 'aff when you were still sleeping. Check what ah got!"

Beaming proudly, he presented his saddlebags to Maple and with an "Ooo...", she pushed them open with her nose and dug into them, pulling out a jar of orange marmalade, a few loaves of bread, a significant amount of apples and other assorted fruit and vegetables, a litre of milk, a small amount of sugar and a little cake.

Chuck poked Maple's nose with his.

"That's for dessert tonight. Hey, Mam? You'd sure love to go to the market, they got everything you'd need to start gairdenin'. And check what I got!"

At this point Chuck pulled out a small axe that was tied to his back and presented it proudly to his family as though it were a beacon of hope.

"I wiz' talkin' tae' wan of the market stall owners an' they told me how tae get a stall of nah ain. Selling logs of wood, so I can go work in the forest out back."

The erstwhile deer realises that while he certainly could set up a market stall, there were already timber suppliers in Ponyville. He could compete with them of course, but he could also join them.

As Chuck talks he takes in the low-ceilinged dwelling, looking out to the river and the dappled sun filtering through the orchard trees. The cottage has a small garden at the back - towards the river, but it wouldn't be very productive due to the shade cast over it. The front garden would be ok though.

OOC: I'm happy to let Chuck have his family moment interjecting with stuff as needed :3
