TheJacksonChannel.Com updated 2:45 p.m. CT, Thurs., Jan. 15, 2009 LEXINGTON, Miss. - Holmes County's sheriff has put body shops across central Mississippi on alert. If they see a red sport utility vehicle come in with damage, it may belong to the person who killed an 11-year-old. On Saturday, someone hit Isaac Harris along Highway 17 in Holmes County. The driver kept going. Isaac died on the side of the road. Story continues below ↓ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- advertisement | your ad here -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thynosha Harris-Collins said she can't find closure until she knows who committed the crime. She said she will visit the memorial in front of her home until someone turns themselves in to police. Isaac was hit and killed Saturday while crossing Mississippi Highway 17 to get his younger brother for dinner. The mother of four said a piece of her is now missing. "Every time I want to call their names --because I usually call them in sequence -- I'll go, 'Joseph, Isaac, Quin and Zack,'" Harris-Collins said. "Now my sequence has been broken." Police said they're getting tips, but so far no strong leads. "We are having tips coming in," said Sheriff Willie March. "Some are calling Crimestoppers. Some are calling the sheriff department's line giving information." March said investigators are looking for a red SUV, possibly a Jeep Cherokee or Chevy Blazer. He said it's very possible that the person didn't mean to hit the 11-year-old, but they should have stopped. "Quite naturally, you stop when you hit a deer and it does damage to your vehicle," March said. "If you hit a human being, you would stop and try to render service to the individual." March said the driver could face vehicular homicide or manslaughter charges. Harris-Collins had a message for the driver: "Just come and let us know what happened. This is not a good situation. This is bad for the person and me." Sheriff's investigators said they are following up on every tip. Isaac would have turned 12 years old next week. Funeral services for him are set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the J.J. McClain High School gymnasium in Lexington. The viewing starts at 12 p.m. Anyone with information on the case should call the Holmes County Sheriff's Department at 662-834-1511. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28663543/ |
