TATE COUNTY, MS (WMC) - The Tate County Sheriff's Office is searching for a man with mild dementia. Carl Manuel, 78, has been missing for around two days, and investigators say his disappearance is suspicious.

Riding on four-wheelers and looking under a creek bridge, investigators aren't leaving any stone unturned in their search for Manuel, last seen around noon on Sunday. He was walking on Goliath Road, wearing a flannel or plaid shirt.

Tate County Sheriff Brad Lance says he's getting conflicting information about Manuel's health and when he was last seen, raising suspicion that something may have happened to the missing man

"Seeing as we're beyond 48 hours and looking for someone who doesn't drive, the chances are going down fast," Lance said . "With inconsistencies that we're getting ... different stories from different individuals is causing us to have concern that this may be more than just a person walking away from their home."

Horn Lake police dogs and the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department's helicopter are among the agencies lending a hand. Family members say Manuel lived with a girlfriend down the road.

"One family believes he walked to the other residence. His family, who never saw him, assumed that he was at the girlfriend's residence," Lance added .

Lance says there's no history of violence between Manuel and his girlfriend. It's unclear who is giving the conflicting information, but with each passing hour he feels more uneasy about the well being of a father and grandfather.

"Our feelings are if he walked away, he wouldn't be able to walk very far and we've been searching last night and today with no traces of him.," Lance said.

Tonight at 10, Janice Broach will bring you an update report with Manuel's family about the difficult past two days.

Manuel has poor eyesight. He walks with a slight limp and has difficulty hearing.

Anyone who can help locate Manuel is asked to contact Tate County Sheriff's Office at 662-562-4434.Manuel is about 6 feet 2 inches tall and 160-175 pounds.

TATE COUNTY, MS (WMC) -
Tate County search teams still haven't found 78-year-old Carl Manuel, who has been missing for three days.

A group searching with a bloodhound had no luck while scouring the wooded area near Manuel's house and his girlfriend's house just down the road.

With missing person fliers in hand, Manuel's great niece Jamie Manuel isn't giving up hope that she'll see her loved one again.

“Not finding anything in these last three days has been hard, because we expected if he just walked away that we would have already found him for sure,” Jamie said.

While law enforcement searched the woods, family members were again out on four-wheelers looking around their property.

“We've been looking in ditches, bushes, I mean under crawling, just everywhere looking ,and we haven't found not a trace, no footprints, none anywhere,” Jamie Manuel said.

Tate County Sheriff Brad Lance says Manuel's disappearance is suspicious.

Detectives are getting conflicting reports about when Manuel was last seen and his health.

The discrepancies have lead investigators to believe it may be more than an older man just walking away from his home. His family doesn't know what to think.

“Lots of grandkids, lots of great nieces, lots of cousins, our family is big and loving, and when something like this happens we stick together,” Jamie said.

The team also searched a park in Senatobia after Derrick Boyd told deputies he thought he saw Manuel there earlier this week.

“When they came in the barbershop, and you know what I'm saying, they had a picture, when they came in, you know, I was like, I thought I've seen that dude, but when they asked about it, I remembered that he was in the park that Monday,” said Boyd.

Late Wednesday, Lance said the search dog did not give any indication that Manuel was in the park.

Investigators are running out of leads and ask that if you know anything to call the Tate County Sheriff's Office 662-562-4434.

Mississippi Department of Public Safety issued a silver Alert for Manuel Wednesday night.
