JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -
This is an active search and rescue mission. That was the message from Mississippi Department of Marine Resources and U.S. Coast Guard officials Tuesday afternoon

Men aboard missing plane worked for RMR Mechanical

Family members of a missing man, who was on board a plane believed to have crashed in Jackson County, say the plane was headed to Summerville, SC for a business trip.

Dexter Brewer, from Saucier, is a project manager with RMR Mechanical. Brewer's wife, Tina Cook, told WLOX News the single engine plane took off Monday night from Ruston, LA, then landed at Million Air in Gulfport to pick Brewer up. Cook said the other passenger on board was Gerald Miletello, Vice President of RMR Mechanical.

Crews are still working to locate three men who were involved in a plane crash early Tuesday morning. Officials held a news conference at the Coast Guard station in Pascagoula to let everyone know that they have not given up the search.

“Still in a search and rescue mission,” said DMR Marine Patrol Chief Keith Davis. “We have currently several assets assigned to this rescue operation that we are involved in.”

“Currently searching for survivors. We were notified yesterday evening. Launched immediately,” said Coast Guard Capt. Brandon Lechthaler. “We've launched additional assets and boats from Pascagoula. We are currently actively searching and will continue to search for survivors.”

The small plane went missing over Jackson County around midnight Monday. The flight first came in from Ruston, LA, then landed at Million Air in Gulfport to pick up a contractor.

The plane took off from Million Air with three men on board at 12:22 p.m. to make the three hour flight to Summerville, SC. Four minutes later, something went catastrophically wrong.

According to the track log found on flightaware.com, the Houston Center tower lost radar contact with the aircraft at 12:26 p.m. The plane was no longer transmitting information from cockpit computers to air traffic controllers.

According to the track log, the plane was at 2,100 feet, traveling at 151 mph before it suddenly disappeared off radar screens.

Exactly 21 hours later, debris from the aircraft washed up on Belle Fontaine Beach in Ocean Springs. Tim Waugh, a Gautier driftwood artist, found the first piece of debris and called the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.

"I was there beach combing, getting ready for the Peter Anderson Festival to find driftwood and spotted part of the tail in the water, and I Googled it and called the sheriff’s department,” said Waugh. “I saw it on the news right before I left the house, and within 30 minutes I saw it. Had I not watched the news, I might have just gone by it with not thought much of it. I realized it was part of an aircraft and realized it must have been the one they're looking for.”

Tina Cook told WLOX News her husband, Dexter Brewer, was on the missing plane. Brewer is a contractor from Saucier. Members of Brewer's family tell us Gerald Miletello was the other passenger on the plane. Coast Guard officials have identified the pilot as Ron Gregory.

Brewer and Miletello work for RMR Mechanical. Brewer is a project manager with the company and Miletello is the company’s vice president.

Crews with the Coast Guard, DMR, Jackson County Sheriff's Flotilla and others are assisting in the search. Cell phone pings led them to search around Bayou Cassotte.

So far, no survivors have been found.

The Coast Guard says the search continues for three men aboard a single-engine plane that went missing Monday afternoon in the Mississippi Sound shortly after takeoff from Gulfport.

Two of three people on a plane that went missing are employees of a Georgia-based contracting business.

Bob Roy, president and co-owner of RMR Mechanical based in Cumming, Georgia, told The Sun Herald both company manager Dexter Brewer and vice president and co-owner Gerald Miletello were on the plane.

Debris, possibly from the plane, was spotted near Belle Fontaine beach in Jackson County Tuesday.

Roy said Brewer was his way to a customer meeting in South Carolina. He said the third person on the plane was a pilot. His name has not been released

JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -
We have new information about the crash of a small plane in the Mississippi Sound almost two weeks ago that killed three men.

The National Transportation Safety Board preliminary report does not point to what caused the plane to drop from the sky, but it does give details about the stormy weather that day.

According to the report, there was visibility of four miles, a light rain, mist and wind gusts up to 28 mph.

The wife of one of the victims told the NTSB her husband told her, "The pilot intended to fly along the coast to avoid the worst of the weather."

The report notes the pilot told air traffic controllers in Gulfport he was going to take some pictures in the local area before continuing on to Daytona Beach.

The pilot, Ron Gregory, had more than 4,400 hours of flight experience and received his FAA medical certificate in September of 2014.

The plane, termed an experimental aircraft, was certified air worthy in October of 2003. Gregory purchased it in August of 2006.

The report raised a question about the plane's registration. The tail number, the one on that first piece of debris found, was not an active registration number. In fact, searchers found another piece of debris with a different registration number.

The Department of Marine Resources and the Jackson County Sheriff's flotilla are still searching for Ron Gregory, Dexter Brewer, Gerald Miletello and the rest of the plane.

The NTSB's final report could take up to 18 months to complete.

JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -
"We're going to keep fighting, until we bring him home," says Tina Cook, whose husband went missing in a plane crash nearly four months ago.

Dexter Brewer was on a business trip, headed to South Carolina, when the small plane he was in went down shortly after taking off from Gulfport on October 26th. Despite exhaustive search efforts in Jackson County, the small plane and those onboard, have never been recovered.

It has been 110 days since the love of her life, went missing in that crash. A celebration of life service will be held this weekend for Dexter Brewer, who close friends knew as "Debo."

"I miss his sweet smile and his sweet soul every day. Because he was, he was one of those people that was always optimistic, always upbeat. And if you were having a bad day, he just made you feel better if you'd see him and talk to him," said Cook, as she spoke with a reporter at her home in Saucier.

She is not willing to accept that her husband may never be found. And while extremely grateful for all the search efforts to date, she plans on being out on the water again.

"When we actually go out there, I think it makes us feel like we're doing something. We're helpless. You know, we're on land. They're out there in the water somewhere. We can't get to 'em. We can't find 'em. It's a helpless feeling. You want to do something, but you don't know what to do," she said.

Dexter Brewer was an avid outdoorsman who loved Mississippi State football. He was a do-it-yourself kind of guy, quick with a smile. One of four brothers, his mom passed away just two weeks after the plane crash. His dad still hopes his son may be found.

"He's always saying, go see if you can find him and bring him back home to us," says Cook, clutching a framed photo of the family.

Tina Cook takes a deep breath each morning and marches forward, one day at a time.

"Otherwise, you pull the covers over your head and sit there and feel sorry for yourself. And that's not what he would want us to do. And we can't accomplish anything by doing that," she said, with a look of determination in her eyes, "So, we're going to keep putting one foot in front of the other, trying to breathe, and do what's necessary to try to bring him home. That's the most important thing."
