Lah,

Why do they schedule all roadwork in Boston on the same week?

Lah- when they have roadwork why can't they restrict semi-tractors to off peak hours 1000pm-0600am. Would free up capacity and reduce congestion.
Bobbles

You are SO right Michael!!!

Lah? I have a two part question:

1) why do road crews always have 5 or 6 extra guys who don't actually do anything?

4a) Do all engineers bring their lunch in one of those steel lunch boxes with the handle on top?

Lah? Do you wear your engineer's cap all the time or just when you are on duty?

David, the term "civil engineer" is a bit of a misnomer.

Although difficult to believe, engineers are actually a bunch of rude, conceited, arrogant bastards.

The original, more accurate name "pretentious engineer" made it difficult to get work.

Rich, we schedule all the work at the same time because it is funny.

Inconveniencing the travelling public and making people angry is entertaining for us. See above answer as to why. :)

Look at all those stupid peasants suffer. :D

Michael, Michael, Michael, dear Michael.......

The extra personnel you sometimes see are the Engineers. We hang out, drink coffee, watch the pleebs work and laugh as we fuch up traffic.

We don't take lunch to work, we take the pleebs lunches while they are working. When the pleebs smarten up and stop taking lunch to work, we go out to eat.

You have probably seen us at one time or another while out dining. We are the group of guys that are arguing about what we all had. There will be at least two guys with calculators figuring out what everyone owes down to the penny. Tips are optional, so we don't leave them.

What do you mean Dave?

Of course I would ignore everyone else and answer you first.

With the discounters, ill-mannered way you talk to everyone, you are obviously an Engineer and the only one worthy of my attention.

Thanks for answering my questions, Lah. Very insightful. I think all of us have a better understanding of your profession now.

Say, do you always stay up front or do you ever go hang out in the caboose?

Rich

Mechanical engineers are involved with the design, analysis, testing, manufacturing, control, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems - that is, any system that has a moving part! Mechanical systems can vary greatly in complexity and magnitude from the valve in an artificial heart to a car engine to a mammoth nuclear power plant. It deals with all aspects of the conversion of thermal energy into useful work and the machines that make this possible.

Civil engineers get to play in the dirt with heavy equipment and build stuff out of concrete.

Mechanical engineers eventually become civil engineers when they realize they made a mistake. :)
