The garlic I planted in the Fall is growing happily. A good 2-3" tall right now. :)

Cut the garlic scapes and grilled them with dinner this last week.

Used to be, you could get a bag full of them at the farmers market for 50 cents. These days they want $4 for a little hand full.

Wow, that's quite a haul! I planted about 40.

I noticed the garlic was starting to brown at the tips of the outer leaves. Almost time.

So do you hurry it off to market? Who buys it? Whole foods? local grocer?
Do you package it? Or just sell it in bulk to a distributor?
Can't recall- did you grow it in raised beds or in the ground?
If in the ground do the deer and Wabbits leave it alone?
What variety?
Planted cloves? How many bulbs do you keep for next crop?
How many pounds did you harvest?
Expected profit?

Thanks!
Bobbles

You are SO right Michael!!!

No, yes, 3. Tax break

I NC you need to earn 10,000$ for the ag exemption.

This fall I'm going to hit my woods for Ginseng to see if it's a prospect.

This is one variety, my wife grew and dried the flowers to weave into the bundle.

Pulled up all my garlic on Sunday. It is drying nicely. Gifted a couple to the neighbours; I always try to share from the garden.

Lord knows I could use the good will. Michael burns it every time he brings that blue Bug down the street, knocking over trash cans and playing his adult easy listening music too loud.

All the garlic is now planted. Two varieties in two patches. Music is replanted from last year and I bought a new large cloves red skinned variety as well. Increase of cloves planted from 40 to 60.

I can't get my ass in gear to do this. Thinking the elephant stuff is what I would plant. More punch per clove IMHO.

Elephant garlic is big but mild.

You only need a few square feet.

Have you got roses? Plant garlic around them to help protect them from pests.

This way you might have the Mrs. encouraging the planting of this vegetable.
