Lara had awoken some hours later after rushing off from the museum. She had hoped that Arabeth was not upset with her leaving so quickly. The talk from earlier had surely surprised her. She was expected the woman who had ruled the planet her father and her lived on to actually be her mentor not to mention her grandmother to boot. Anger slowly slipped in. It was a feeling that often did not surface in the young woman. She had no right to led me on as she did. She could have said something at any point, so why now? How could she have dropped such a bomb shell? I honestly hope that I never have to see her again. At the last part, she ripped the key off from her neck. The note that was attached to gift started to make a bit more sense. S was most likely meant that her grandmother gave her this. The word grandmother left a bad taste in her mouth. It felt wrong to be calling anyone that unless it was her Nanna on Earth. The necklace sat in her hands as her thumb rubbed over the intricate design. She looked down at it as a new wave of anger flooded. The key was sent sailing across the room. She got up from her bed and headed to the main area of the apartment she shared. Her mind turning over on how much influence the Queen of Pluto had with her getting into this school and the living arrangements. She checked to see if her friend had come home though it looked just the opposite. She felt herself starting to pace the apartment as dark, bitter thoughts passed through her head. They swirled around dragging her deeper into a pit of despair. She glanced at the holo emitter. An idea struck her as she picked it up and dialed her father by heart. He would be the one person who might be able to calm her down. It would seem like an eternity until he finally picked up the phone. A dark haired man with tanned skin and baby blue eyes answered. A sparkling smile brightened his face when he caught sight of his only child calling him. His smooth voice said, "Well this is a nice surprise, pumpkin. How are things going at school? I heard that there was a bit of an attack on the Moon earlier. Are you all right?" Lara felt her own smile cross her face. There was a soothing presence with the man that pushed away the dark thoughts for the moment. "I am fine, Dad. I was out at a restaurant with Arabeth when the attack hit. There is no need to worry about me. School is going good. Classes are hard but interesting. I have been keeping up with my studies. I have been debating about taking a bit more of a landscape art class." "I thrilled to hear school is keeping you entertained. I am so happy to hear that you are safe. Things have been pretty crazy around there. I have half a mind to pull you out and come live with me again. Did you get the package I sent?" Lara thought back to the images she had gotten from the different pieces. "I did. There was nothing too special. That reminds me, we took a trip to the History Museum today." Tears started to trickle into her eyes as she sat back, "I really miss her." The dark brow furrowed a bit as he watched his daughter's mood turn. He wished with every fiber of his being that he could be there with her right now. "I know, pumpkin. I miss her too. These years have not been easy for us. When you head my way, we can talk about her a bit more. I am sure that the trip earlier really did not help much. I do know one thing, she would be proud of you, just like I am." Lara felt a couple tears escape as she wiped her eyes. She was really hoping to see her father again very soon. She was hoping that it would be weeks instead of months. "Well I am not sure she would have liked how I acted today. I found out that we have more family then organically thought." A brow raised with that comment, "Oh?" "Well I met the Queen of Pluto today. She said something that I am a princess of Pluto since Mom was her daughter. I ended up getting upset and just left. Did you know about any of this?" A sigh escaped his lips. His mind turning over as they got to the real reason for the surprise call. He had met Queen Setsuna once as Lara got the letter from the school. She told him that all of her expenses would be paid for as well as the interesting fact about his wife. The last puzzle to the past of dead wife came into play. He made a promise not to tell Lara until Setsuna did. It would seem as if today was that fated day. "Honey, before you get all upset, we thought that it would be for the best. I mean I only found out whe.." Lara interrupted him as a fresh wave of anger hit. It seemed as if the whole world was against her at this very moment. "You thought it was for the best? How could you keep something like this from me? We made a promise after Earth not to hide secrets anymore. How could you break a promise like that to me? What else have you been hiding? You know what, I don't want to know. I am sure that is all for a very good reason." Her father started to cut in when she ended the communication. She curled up into a ball as hot tears flooded down her face. It would seem like she was the only one who was kept out of the loop. She wanted nothing more to do with any of them. This was all some grand scheme against her. Her father tried to contact her a few more times, each time she just ignored his call. She wanted nothing more then to be left alone. A dark cloud hung heavy over her as her thoughts twirled into the black abyss. |

Arabeth had been surprised by the turn of events. First the Queen of Pluto appearing to Lara and telling her she was her granddaughter, then Lara running out of there like she was on fire. The museum had been more fun with her cousin then when anyone else took her. Since she was back in her room organizing her parts she checked in on Lara while she slept and continued to organize. Once she had that done she didn't expect any visitors so when Lara's dad showed up she greeted him nicely and left them alone while she tinkered. It wasn't any of her business what they said. After all Lara seemed to need some privacy. She loved the workbench she had installed and while the school might not like her tapping directly into the power grid to power her tools she didn't care. She was a mechanic and if she needed to specially modify a part the ship's machine shop wasn't going to give her access. She continued to respindle her FTL core she had picked up this tritium wiring and would soon coat the whole thing in platinum to extend its life and hopefully give it a bit more speed past the speed of light. Well that or it would explode violently and either immolate the ship or strand them. The joys of modifying known equipment. |

Lara slowly noticed the noise coming from the far distant part of the apartment she shared. Her mind had still slowly turning over the massive betrayal, as her body slowly uncurled itself. It would seem as if her legs had a mind of their own as they carried her to where the noise was coming from. She had often heard such sounds though never really inspected them. She stopped in the bathroom for just a moment as she washed her face. No more crying. You have done more than your fair share today. Maybe getting a nice distraction will help. Mom always said to use my anger in a productive way. Sitting on the couch will not solve anything. She returned to the hallway to go see what her cousin was up to. She guessed that she was really related to the princess from Saturn. It left a small amount of bile in her throat for a different reason. She tentatively knocked on the door in hopes of being able to help the girl out in some fashion, if not there was always some way else she could let off all of this steam. |

At the knock of the door Arabeth burnt herself with the soldering iron she was using and then cursed a bit. She smiled at what she had done and went to the door. The smiled widened at the sight of Lara. “Lara, hello, come in please. After all this is where I like to keep my workbench which you are more than welcome to use.” She escorted the girl and then looked at what she was wearing. Oh that was probably a bit off putting. In a sports bra and pants and barefoot. She smiled at her cousin again waiting for her to open up the conversation. “Would you like a cup of tea?” |

Lara entered into the room. It was her first time here as she drank in the different parts and tools that were used. She walked over and ran a hand over the shelf of older parts. She turned her attention over to Arabeth. Tea sounded lovely. It might also calm some of edginess she felt. "That would be nice. Thank you." She rubbed her hands together as she blurted out, "I am sorry for running off on you earlier. I was not expected to find out about more family. I was in a bit of shock." She felt the hot coal of anger build its way up once more. Her fists clenched, trying to keep a tight reign on her emotional state. It was not her cousin's fault that her family had lied to her for years. She wanted nothing more to do with any of them. She took a few deep breaths in hopes of calming down once more. |

Arabeth had a kettle sitting over a hot plate in her workspace. She flipped a switch and coils heated rapidly. At the apology she waved it off. "It's ok. After all we deal with things in our way." She finished her work on the coil and when she turned to look at Lara there would be minor burns on her clothing. She had unbuttoned her shirt because of the work and was more comfortable. She smiled brightly at her cousin. "If you want to talk about it I'll listen. I guess family has to stick together. We are family from what I have been told all my life." She giggled and pulled her cousin into a hug. "So what upset you?" |
