When Rue was finally let off Mercury, nothing had been resolved. She'd refused to take any of their calls. She'd even had her number changed and listed under an alias. How dare they lock her up like some common criminal just because she didn't want to risk her life protecting Aoi. Why was Aoi's life always so much more important then hers?

In desperate need of retail therapy, Rue had all but melted her credit cards in every shop she'd come to this morning and now hung out in Jupiter district watching people eat. She was hungry, so hungry, but she was so tired of being fat. Food might be a pleasure when you were eating it, but it had lasting results on her waistline and, worst, her breasts.

Even Aoi had her beat out in the chest department, having next to nothing. Aoi was built with the dancer's body Rue craved. If Aoi wanted plastic surgery, no doubt she'd have been given it. But, yet again, Rue was treated like a criminal for even suggesting it.

Growling in frustration, she entered a shoe shop to see what damage she could do there.

Going over the incident at the club in his head over and over again, Lin kept trying to think of a way that things could have gone differently. As much as it killed him to not try to help Nariko, he knew it wasn't his place. She had plenty of others to help her and since he was the only who told her and Adora to latch onto the creature with their respective whips....it was, in a way, his fault for setting up the predicament that led to the fatal electrocution. And Nariko wasn't stupid either, she probably figured that little tidbit out already!

Unlike others, he had managed to walk away from that with little in the way of injuries. A wonder considering how much of a risk he took in not only facing the creature with, of all things, a bar stool! But also by throwing himself in the path to protect Nereida when she decided to join the fray. All things considered...he had the devil's own luck right now!

But he had to help Nariko feel better somehow! So there he was in the Jupiter district in some random shoe store looking at women's shoes. Regardless of how he might be perceived, Lin simply didn't care. He was there for a reason and public image be damned, he was just gonna focus on what he was doing and get the hell out of there quickly!

Inside the shoe shop, Rue was surprised to find one of Queen Makoto's grandkids. She couldn't remember his name. There were far too many offspring and offspring of offspring of the Jupiter Royal Family to possibly remember them all. Seriously, they needed to invest in birth control.

Still, talking to him was better than stewing and infinitely better than speaking with a member of her own family.

Plastering on a bright smile, she went to look at the shoes he was checking out. "Shoe fetish?" she asked, trying to make a joke. "I think there are higher heels in back."

Lin was in the middle of staring at one shoe when the footfalls of another person caught his attention. Her joke was kinda funny but not entirely accurate. "Ha." he said as he turned to find out who he was talking to. Rue Yukimura. One of the easier to identify princesses in the kingdom. The blue of her hair was distinctly different from the teal of Kai and Eida's.

"If only it was a fetish-" Lin mused, looking back to the shoes. "-then this would be so much easier." Then again, shoes probably weren't the right thing to get Nariko at this point. Dammit why did women have to be so confusing?

Could he ask her for advice on the matter? Probably. Of all the princesses in the kingdom, she was probably the closest to Nariko in terms of interests. But Rue was a ballet dancer, Nariko was more along the lines of ballroom and contemporary. Shoes for dancing were literally apples and oranges between them. It wouldn't hurt, would it? She did, at least, know the more basic requirements for dancing shoes!

"I don't suppose I could pick your brain for a moment?" Lin asked. "I'm looking at shoes for a dancer and frankly you are, by leaps and bounds, more experienced on that topic than the staff in this shop."

The question, for some reason, surprised Rue. It made sense of course, as they were in a shoe store. It was possibly that he lead off with 'I don't suppose I could pick your brain for a moment?' No one ever asked to pick her brain. It was a well known fact that Rue was by far the stupidest member of her entire family.

But I can dance, she thought. There was worth there.

"The type of shoe depends on the type of dancing," she said, turning all serious. This was, after all, her only area of expertise. "Are we talking classic, ballet, hip-hop?" The last dance she stumbled over. She hardly considered it true dancing yet some did so she'd added it.

A wave of relief washed over Lin as she agreed to help him, sort of and in not quite those words. But the fact that she answered at all was enough for him. And she did so with a degree of seriousness that was somewhat expected. Maybe had more to do with dancers wanting to have the proper shoes for safety reasons or just the simple fact that she was a woman in a shoe store. Either way, she was giving it her full attention.

"Ballroom, jazz and contemporary mostly." Lin answered. He noticed the way she stumbled a bit when she said hip-hop and had to fight not to smile or even laugh a little at the thought of Nariko doing hip-hop dancing. Then again, given how much dedication and effort she put into learning dance, it wouldn't surprise him if she did try it at some point. "I know ballroom is pretty much an umbrella term but I guess you get the idea?"

"Ballroom," Rue nodded. For herself, she would get something with a nice stiletto heel but that was because she danced on her toes. For professional ballroom dances, while they did keep most of balls of their feet, many of them have stunts that needed the heel as well. Given that information, she moved him down the rolls to some heeled sandals and open toed shoes.

"For ballroom dancing, you need a really sturdy heel," she said, holding up a simple pair of silver sandals covered in glitter. "like so. They don't have to be these, but see how the heel is a little thicker?" She turned the shoe upside down to show him.

The last thing Lin expected was for her to be pushing him down toward some other, more appropriate shoes. Looking at the shoe she had picked up to show him, Lin cocked a single eyebrow more in curiosity than anything else. "I see...." he said. "That would make sense."

Looking at the selection of shoes, Lin felt more and more underwhelmed about the whole idea. "Maybe shoes aren't the right thing to get her." he mumbled. "Then again, what do you get to try and cheer someone up after something like that?" Reaching into his pocket, Lin produced a small PDA and pulled up a list of ideas, one part being for Nariko to try and cheer her up and another part being for Adora and Eida, though that part of the list only had flowers listed on it.

"This is gonna take a while...."

Rue shrugged, her fingers toying over the trap of one of the shoes. Why didn't anyone ever wreck their brains over what would make her feel better when she was depressed?

Damn it, the whole reason she'd gone on this shopping trip was so that she wouldn't feel sad anymore!

"Chocolate," she said, shrugging again. "Most girls like that. I always dance," she confessed. Alone, she added to herself. She was always alone in a room full of mirrors, constantly seeing her own flab, her own imperfections. Alone.

Not that she minded being alone, she reminded herself, straightening her shoulders. Like she needed anyone else sitting around pointing out her own flaws. Fuck them.

Lin looked up at Rue as she suggested chocolate with a shrug. "Nah. Nariko doesn't eat chocolate too often, and even then, its usually melted for dipping fruit or use in a parfait." he pointed out. "Cesar told her that chocolate was of the foods she should cut back on when they went to the Sydney Dance Company."

"I don't suppose you know what to get someone to say 'sorry you killed someone'....?" Lin asked. It was a rhetorical question. He really didn't expect Rue to have an answer for that.

"Or something to say 'sorry my cousin electrocuted you'?" Lin wondered as he sat in the middle of the aisle. "This whole mess is beyond fucked up!"
