Intergalatic Monkey Man

When a pickup truck from the 1930's inexplicably shows up in space, it's beamed aboard Voyager for closer inspection. Even more peculiar, the truck's radio is picking up an SOS distress call but from where? Kim traces the signal to a nearby star system and Janeway orders the crew to lay in a course to the signaling planet. An unusual amount of interference in the upper atmosphere prevents them from beaming down, so Janeway tells Paris to land the ship on the planet's surface. The Away Team follows the SOS to the cockpit of an airplane that was built during the same era as the truck. Beyond the plane, the crew finds a chamber containing eight humans in cryo-stasis units. All are dressed in 1930's attire, and one unit holds famed aviator Amelia Earhart, who disappeared with her navigator Fred Noonan on July 2, 1937. The eight humans are revived from suspended animation. Once awake, the humans demand to know where they are and how they got there. After Janeway explains that they were probably abducted by aliens 400 years earlier, a suspicious Noonan and some of the others take the crew hostage. Hoping to convince them of the truth, Janeway gets Earhart to venture outside the chamber to see Voyager, but as soon as they do, they come under fire by two snipers on a hill. Janeway quells the attack and learns the snipers are two humans who have mistaken the crew for the Briori: an alien race that kidnapped more than 300 people from Earth in 1937 and brought them to the planet as slaves. After a successful slave revolt chased the Briori off, the humans created a colony. However, they believed that the eight "37's" in Earhart's group were dead, and they left them in their cryo-stasis units for centuries. The colonists offer the 37's and Voyager's crew the opportunity to remain on the Earth-like planet, and Janeway allows each member of her flock to choose for his or herself. Although Neelix and Chakotay are sure they want to go with Janeway, she can't be so sure about the other crewmembers, who debate the merits of settling on the planet. Ultimately, Amelia Earhart and the other 37's decide to stay with their "descendants," but to Janeway's relief, the entire Voyager crew opts to leave with her |

An episode that have its good moments. The main plot where Voyager happens to run into descendants of humans who were abducted from Earth in the 20th century including Amelia Earhardt is actually too unrealistic. Still an interesting perspective with those humans in the Delta Quadrant. The scene when Janeway enters the Cargo Bay to say goodbye to those who have decided to remain on the planet and there's no one there who wants to leave is one of Voyager's finest moments. Sometimes I wish that Voyager would have stayed on that planet and helped the people there to create a new Federation in that part of space. OK, we would have lost wonderful moments like the one in cargo Bay 2 but instead we have had continuing episodes and adventures with our heroes in books and possible movies. I'll give it 3 out of 5 |

I think id give it 4 out of 5. not the best by far i dont think but it did have a very good plot. I thought it was very sweet how the crew decided to stay on Voyager, it showed the idea of a family truly going to the end together. It was a good eposode, good story and acting etc. and being in the season most people hated aparantly (dont know why) prooved they were still pulling out good scripts. |

4 out of 5. I enjoyed this episode quite a bit. But, I would have liked to see it more stretched out as a two-parter. |

"Would you like to talk about what's bothering you or would you like to break some more furniture?" "My car just hissed at me. There's steam coming out of the engine" "Was it the coffee? Are we gonna go too, just like the captain?" "I know what time it is, I don't need a bloomin' cukoo clock"

I'd never heard of Amelia Earhart when I first saw it, so I suspect some of the episode's attraction was lost on me. |

the same for me 4/5 .. perhaps not the best of my list but one of them ! very moving as Janeway was with Chakotay before entering the cargobay to see which crewmembers eventually wanted to stay on this planet and the meeting with her icom A. Erhart was a good & strong moment ! 2 women of the air with the same passion As Turboboost also said would have made a good 2 parts one ! |

perhaps, but i dont see much more that could have been done with it apart from maybe seeing one of these huge cities and how humans have strived and succeeded in survival even on a different world. I wouldnt say it would have been a great 2 parter, probably would have felt too drawn out. |
